Hello everyone! I am a SAHM of two both still in diapers (although one is almost out). They really wear me out, LOL. I am married to a great guy who is a little younger than I am, so our views regarding money are very different. I am not saying this of all younger people, but a lot of them have the "I'll start saving later" kind of additude(my DH). I say this because I was one of them and I'm paying the price for it today. In the past few years I have started to realize that my habits regarding money were going to pull me so far down into debt that I would never see the light of day again. I started clipping coupons, looking for sales, buying genaric , lol. All that helped for awhile, but now I realize it's just not enough. I am currently looking at my budget to find out where my money is really going, and learning to shave down what we really don't need. This is a very hard board to get around in! At least it is for me, a computer dumby. If anyone has any tip on what's what and how to get around please pm me! I think I can find it, lol. I could use the help!
Welcome Budget Mom! Maybe showing DH how compounded interest makes a difference the sooner you start saving, especially for retirement will help him come around.
My name is Kandi. I'm joining this site because I love budgeting and saving money My husband and I just had a baby boy in May so money is a little tight right now. I use a modified version of the Dave Ramsey envelope system and budget monthly with a weekly breakdown (like the Dave Ramsey book TMM). I also enjoy Suze Orman though a lot of people I know think she's annoying. I can't wait to learn something new! Also, I'll have to post a lot so I can become a member of the elusive 100 post club.
My name is Greg and I am 17. I just started saving and I'm interested in the stock market. I don't know much about it as of yet, but from this forum I'm going to learn the most I can. So, for me any feedback is good feed back.
I have a mutual fund at Vanguard, and a saving account at WAMU.
I work at Dairy Queen and a furniture auction. So, most of my money is going to savings until I can get hooked up with the stock market. Any advice for a first time stock marketer will be appreciated.
My name is Tina, and I've been browsing the archives for a while before I realized there was an active site to go along with them. Go figure!
At any rate, I am a late-20-something married just bought my first house type, and as a result I suffer from the typical affliction of most everyone else my age: stagnent CC debt accrued in college, student loans, poor credit, yadda yadda. The good news is I have a budget and something close to a plan. The bad news is DH is a spender, not a saver, so the road is not going to be smooth. Hopefully, that's where everyone here will come in handy!
I can relate to "budgetmom" as far as the computer goes. I know my way around one but have little experience in blogs and posts, etc. I'm really freaking out!!!!
I go by the username nancy58. I'm a stay at home wife (2nd marriage), all of our children are grown and am a grandmother of 4 granddaughters and a 3month old grandson. Both my husband and I have lived and learned the hard way about money and are both "older and wiser" about it. We have been married for 5 years and in that time have paid off our mortgage, all credit card debt (we pay it in full monthly) and have 3 vehicles 1999 and newer, paid in full. I still want to learn more as we now embark on the journey to refine out retirement savings. At this point our financial planner shows that we can retire at 62, living the same lifesytle we do now. Both my husband and I would like to drop that by a few years if possible, so I am always looking and learning new and different ways to save.
I hope to be able to interact with many of you as I get a better understanding of how this site works. Thanks !!
Hi Chris and Nancy, glad you joined us. We actually don't talk that much in the 100 posts section, we are all too busy reading each other's blogs.!! Welcome!!
Hello! I've been lurking for a few weeks and hope to jump in, learn a lot, and maybe even offer a little.
I'm a 30-something mom of a baby from Southern California. Married to current DH since we were teenagers and have struggled financially pretty much all of our lives together. Only recently do I feel like all our hard work and corner-cutting is starting to pay off. Our only current debt is the mortgage which we hope to pay off within a couple of years, though lately I worry that we might need another car at some point and don't like how that won't fit nicely into any financial plan we have!
Hi, I have been reading this forum for a few weeks. I have read the blogs, so many great tips in these ... Flash with her coupon info and Ima Saver (love the electrical usage info you have) are my top favorites.
I live in Texas where we have in the rising rates of electricity. Everyone here is getting hit with huge bills. $450.00 is not that uncommon. (we had a typical hot summer). Then we had some vet bills and our budget was strained. I am starting to question about our insulation, kilowattage of things, calling the electric co. My Dad's bill was $700.00 for one month (but he has huge bad insulation house). My husband's coworkers bills averaged about $500.00! Sis, an apt. dweller who sweats with a/c off a lot had a $90.00 bill. I guess one can tell I am fixated on electricity.
They did a 30% hike since last year...sweat or pay or sweat and pay.
DH hates to cut back on much, I love to do saving stuff and love to read info on any tips I can get.
Hello! I just joined this morning. I am here to keep myself on a debt-reduction plan so that we can finally pay off these credit cards and other debts and put more towards retirement.
I am the assistant county librarian in the only 2-county library system in northern PA. My employer is currently paying for me to take classes to get a degree in accounting since part of my duties involve bookkeeping. I love working with numbers and will often spend my spare time redoing the family budget. LOL!
My husband and I have been married for 22 years (in January) and have 5 teenagers, 2 of which are in college.
I look forward to reading the information here and getting to know other "budget-minded" people!
