Re: Introduce Yourself
Ruby Payne is big right now in educational circles about dealing with children in poverty. One of the things she points out, as does the author of Nickel and Dimed pointed out, is these payday loan places are usually located in neighborhoods where there are poor because they either can't or don't know how to use a bank. If you think about it, how many of us had someone in our life who told us about a checking or savings account? Many people do not and probably don't want to appear stupid if they go in and ask. I know in Illinois a month or so ago, one corporation that runs these payday loans was cited for charged such huge fees.

Anyway, I am from Southern California - the land of expense. I have been a saver from way back and this habit has enabled DH and I to pay off our house 4 years ago. DH did splurge on a big truck -- we did payments because it was a 0% loan. Prioritizing "wants" vs "needs" has helped us all along. I also coupon heavily and gets LOTS of items for FREE on a regular basis. I am looking forward to learning much more on our journey to financial independence.
