Hey everyone! I'm very glad to have found this site. I am a divorced female and a mother of two boys. One grown the other a 14yo. I was raised in a frugal home so it's part of my makeup. I love this site because finally I've met people like me. People who understand that saving money (when you have a few dollars to spend), being debt free, and living below your means does not mean that you are greedy, selfish, or stingy.

Hello, I just discovered this site about 3 days ago. It is so nice to have the support of so many...
I am a MSAHM of a soon to be one year old. I have worked my entire life full time (I am 35) and it is weird to now go down to one income. We need help getting our spending and debt under control.
Nice to meet many of you.

          Hello!
I am 25 yrs old, married have 2 kids. Son 3yrs and daughter 1 yr. My dh works full time. And what he makes would be enogh for us to live, but I love to have some savings and want to pay off my house as soon as possible (well, at least reduce the amount of wasted money on interest that we pay every month). So, I work part-time, actually I have 2 pt jobs. The reason I can't really have normall 8-5 ft job is I don't want to pay for childcare. So I have to work when my dh is home. I have AA degree in Business, but even If I went to work ft, and pay for childcare, My takehome pay would be about the same. Because then I wouldn't qualify for WIC, have to pay more taxes and I would lose the health insurance for my kids. Even if I would have health coverage from work, I would still have to pay extra for the kids in most cases.
And yes, I LOVE TO GET FREE STUFF. Thats why my name is getforfree.

            Hi there all!

I'm 49 and I live right outside of NYC, in Jersey, in a tiny house with a huge dog (a great pyr from a rescue). I own a catering company, and I'm an ordained minister who writes and performs ceremonies (mostly weddings anc committments, though I do guest preaching fairly often. I also write restaurant and hotel reviews. I have an interesting an unusual life, and part of the reason I can do what I do is that I try to watch what I spend (now that being said, I just got back from a pedicure 'cause I'm GOING to a wedding tomorrow, yikes....those New York Girls are catty about icky toes!)

I'm divorced, but my ex and I are best friends and business partners; my partner is a brilliant scientist who's also frugal and fun.

I feel very lucky that I have gotten to go to grad school and work at the same time; sometimes I think that there are just not enough hours in each day, but it's much better than being bored. I will be looking for a full time "call" as a pastor, starting next year, and my not - so- costly habits will let me do that.

              Hi Amber,

Not to promote debt, but of all the money you could borrow, student loans are the cheapest; I am paying back my loans from seminary, which I went to full time, at a rate that is under 3%. I had to think about how long it would take me to get through school with no loans as opposed to how soon I could get done and make more money with a job in my field. Everyone's tolerance for debt is different, but if your degree is going to make a differenc in your earning potential, you might want to give that a thought....

I found this site back in February and I love it. I had been looking for a site with well designed especially for financial purposes and this is the one. I am a part-time student paying my way through school (no loans) no children and I have about $5000.00 in debt. I am hoping I will learn so much from you guys that I can share your thoughts and views with others.
Thanks for all your responses as well as post

                      Hello all,
I am 19 years old and have a big problem. I have an overspending addiction. Recently I have been using other people's credit cards to buy things. I've gone into my mom's purse a few times too. I am in serious trouble and need help. So I decided to come here to learn how to stop my addiction. Does anyone have any tips and/or advice?

                      Regards,
                      Jesse

You need professional help before this turns into a legal problem, if it hasn't already. Tips and advice are fine, but you need to turn to a counselor.

I did tell her about it. However she too is at a loss as to where to get help.

Wow, is there anybody in Minn., that can help Jesse? Jesse, you need to come on one of the other threads and say this again. Too often the introduce yourself thread gets ignored by those that could help you.
Go to frugal advice or something, and ask this question again, start a new topic!

I'm a 47 year old woman in a Midwest US city. I'm married with one child who is off to college at the end of summer. We have no debt except our house. We had a 23% drop in our income at the end of last year and do not expect to replace it. This does not cause us any panic since we have always happily lived below our means. We have many ways to share our good fortune with others. I beleive that sharing is one of the reasons to live frugally.
