Hi, all! My name is Brian, or "Writer@Large" as I'm generally known on other forums. I'm a dad, husband, and educator from Dearborn, MI. I'm here because I've been browsing everything I can find on personal savings and financial advice as part of my weblogging efforts; I maintain a weblog where I'm chronicling my attempt at Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover and trying to provide a talk-point for personal finance issues of the day.

Yeah, ain't it grand? I'm the child of a lifetime FORD employee, and it makes me cry sometimes to see how low the American automotive industry has sunk. Companies losing money, designs mired in the archaic gas-guzzling SUVs, the UAW a shadow of its former self ... I drive by Ford world HQ nearly everyday, and just sigh.

My name is Benny I am 26 father of 2 married for 6 years. I am in deep trouble. I owe 150,000 in unaccounted for debt. I own 2 homes one I rent out. My biggest problem is I am only bringing home 4000 a month and minimum payments are 3100. It is hard to feed 3 other mouths on 900 a month. + all the other everyday bills.

I am glad I found this site to encourage me on my journey of NO SPENDING. I have been at it since May 1 and have done rather well so far. My first month I have cut $300 out of my monthly expenses by killing the cell phone, cable, food(lost 11 lbs in May), morning coffee, beer, and just about anything else I enjoyed for the last 10 years.

First goal is to pay off my Auto Loan for 8,000 which is costing me 264 a month. Once I pay that off that 264 will go towards the next lowest balance. The hardest part is patience between checks. I get a check deposit all of it and wait for the next one. I am really screwed but have a credit score of like 720. Just way in over my head.

It sounds like you are on the right track. You didn't get all your debt in a matter of days so it will take awhile to pay it off, but keep up the good work!

Introducing Myself

Greetings to all!

I'm a thirty-something wife and mother in Seattle, Washington. My son's a SpongeBob SquarePants fan, so he assigns me the role of money-loving Mr. Krabs.

I had an online debt diary in the early 2000s, and used to be on the Motley Fool community boards (1996 - 2004), and the Your Money boards at MSN (2001 - present).

If anyone from Seattle is reading this, I'm in a debt support group now in its sixth great year. I'm having a hard time believing that the four of us are the only ones open enough to discuss monthly, face-to-face, what our debt totals are, and what we're doing to increase our net worth and pay off our debt face-to-face. We all started with negative balances over $10,000 and we've all eradicated them. We still meet though, because once in a while we'll waver or the emergencies outpace the emergency fund.

Mostly I'm into the forums for frugality discipline and money maintenance. Energy costs are rising so I want to whip them down. I've been looking through the forums and blogs and I am delightfully tickled to see so much great information here.

Hi, I am Jenn and live in Upper Michigan (above the Wisconsin part). I am married to my high school sweetheart. We have 4 kids (1 month, 5, 12, and 14) I have been working full time until my maternity leave, but they might have downsized my office while I have been out. My favorite things/hobbies include Tupperware, playing the flute, wheeling in the woods with our Jeep, helping my dh in the garage, camping, and spending time outdoors and with my family.

Just want to thank the owner of this site and the others who post here! This site is fantastic!
