Welcome Amanda W! You'll find that we have a great bunch of folks here! There is a ton of info on the forums and you really must take a look at the blogs!
Hi! I've been lurking for awhile, learning a LOT. DH (grad student) and I (SAHM) have been living on a tiny income forever it seems and we have a DS. I've been trying to wrap my head around everything I'm reading and this site has been really great!
Welcome skinnybudget!! You will find a ton of great info and ideas...you just need to take the time and look!! I could spend my whole day on this site alone...always find a new idea or thought to ponder.
Just checking in on everyone -- I've been away a while and likely won't have internet again after this week for some time. We're getting ready to move to Colorado, but in the meantime just travelling a lot. It's good to see so much activity on the boards. I'm sure I'll be back once we find a house/move in, etc.
Happy New Year to everyone. It is great to start 2007 debt free....Now to start making some money. I am ready to get more educated and this is one site that works well.
Dh's job is moving us out there to Pueblo, CO. We will be looking at Pueblo West and Colorado Springs. I will hopefully get on board with the same company, so the daily commute distance may dictate where we purchase.
It's very different in the Pueblo/Pueblo West area -- desert, few trees, lots of dust -- not at all what this Georgia girl is used to. Colorado Springs is near the base of the mountains, so much prettier and greener-- except for all the white that it's under lately. And I'm not used to snow either. I'm sure I'll manage okay -- I got a lot of sweaters and blankets for Christmas from family members -- they know me all too well!
Oh so much to see. Pikes Peak, Cave Of The Winds, and The North Pole in the Colorado Springs Area. Also gorgeous mountains, and The Three Sisters. Been to all of these and really enjoyed my days. Poudre Canyon is also a nice tour. Just driving through the mountains is breath taking. You'll love mountain living.
Now the snow is another story. Some years worse than others. This year so far they have really had their fill of it. Nice to play in and build snowmen and igloos. Not so nice for driving.
Colorado is a bit strange as far as weather wise. It could snow in the morning, clear up by noon, and in the evening your ready for the beach. Also it could be raining in the front of your house, but not in the back. My husband was golfing 5 miles from our residence. They were having a hail storm the size of golf balls. At our house we had nothing, but nice weather. Strange you bet. But that's Colorado.
You can put your jacket or coat under you, and slide down the mountains in the winter.
You can go up to Trailridge, stop at one of the look outs, and walk out to the ledge. When you look straight ahead ,it looks like a city in the valley. Also when you get to the top, the clouds are below you.
You will see Elk running all over up in the mts. You will also run into a lot of riding stables. We used to ride for hours.
Up in Estees park you will run into the Stanley Motel. where the movie shinning was filmed.
The cloud formations look like, someone made them out of shaving cream.
They even sell bear rugs going up the mts.
Now on the way up to Wyoming they have small lakes filled with Coral. Loads of people fish in these. I have a nice chunk of coral, that I had a sea shell t.v. lamp made out of.
Also in Colorado they have drift wood stores. They make beautiful pieces of furniture and clocks out of it.
Some of the souvenior stores have these huge rocks cut in half. On the insides are beautiful colored stones. They called these GEO's. Geoliffic crystals. They were breath taking.
Some people go panning for gold. You can check out the gold mines. I loved Central City for this. I have a beautiful nugget in my safety deposit box in my bank. Do not dare to wear it. It is stuted with diamonds.
You will see entrances to gold mines, when you go up some of the mts. Look for doors on the mts. There are some mines that are inactive, and turned over.
So much to do girl.
You can also go to Mexico, and dicker with them. You'd be surprised at the things you can get cheap with cash. Cash talks there. I made out like a bandit. My husband even got a marble chess set.
So have a wonderful trip and stay. Who knows someday we may, even meet in person out there. I can't stay away.
Well can't think of anything more right now. so good night.
