    • Hi guys, I am Gary. I am a father of two sons. I am married to a beautiful wife Rebecca. We both recently moved to Seattle, WA. We love it out here, except for the rain. anyway, i am a stay-at-home dad because Rebecca works and I watch for the kids currently. They love baseball and it's one of my favorite sports. I am also big on saving money and educating myself and my wife about personal finance and best way to stretch our dollars. I enjoy this site so finally became a member but i've been coming here for some time now. Glad to be part of the group.

      Thanks,

      Garyd

      • Welcome BaseBall Dad: We're happy that you are here. I myself have two sons that played baseball and the younger was a pitcher in college.

        • Hi I'm David "The Budget Man". I've been enjoying and learning from this site for ages. My whole life revolves around helping people who have found that old style budgets have failed. There's nothing more exciting than seeing people discover that they can enjoy life with the money they have.

          • Hi, I'm Sheryl from Rochester, NY. I am quite interested in saving money, and being a responsible consumer in terms of protecting the environment. I'm 44, married, and have a 20yo son from my first marriage. I have a beautiful 28 yo stepdaughter. DH and I don't have children together, but we do have 2 furkids (cats.)

I used to be a Yuppie, until I got cancer in 1995 at the ripe old age of 32. I had surgery and chemo. The cancer was gone, but the chemo destroyed "good stuff" too, and I began to have continual immune system problems which eventually became disabling.

Because it took a long time to pinpoint the problems, I was labeled as simply depressed and denied by MetLife for my long-term disability insurance. I did get SSDI. I now live on SSDI, where my income is the same for a month as it was in a Week in 1998.

Anyhow, after all that happened, I *DID* get depressed. Then, as my illness progressed, I had tons of time to think. I got down on myself for spending money when I had it, instead of saving for the future.

Fast forward to now: On my teeny-tiny income, I have been able to help my son with $8200 toward college (I never, ever touched that money, no matter how bad things got), I have NO credit card debt, I have a contingency fund of $10K, and a liquid savings of $2500.

My only debts now are: mortgage, which is $29,900 left, and a HELOC balance of $7500 (down from $14,500 in 2005.)

DH and I do not combine our money at all. The house has been mine since 1984; even before my first marriage. We split basic household expenses, but pretty much everything is separate.

I am a coupon queen, and I love making a "game" out of finding ways to save and find money. I love to be creative about recycling and repurposing items.

I do hope to learn new tips and tricks from you all, and hopefully, I'll have something to contribute to you as well.

I'm looking forward to seeing you on the boards.

I'm from Colorado. I'm a sahm. I'm in desperate need of finacial advice. I've already learned a bunch here and this is only my second time signing on! It seems very promising. Yippie! I hope that maybe I can contribute a little rather than just absorbing all your good information. Thanks for being here! Michelle

                    Jeffery,
I notice under my username it reads "saving kindergartner". I don't have a kindergartner. I have a 12 year old and an almost 2 year old (although quite a bit in the 2's if you know what I mean ahhh). Not that it really matters anyway what is there. But, just thought I'd ask. Thanks, Michelle

                    • Welcome searching4 and mountainharts! Michelle, I believe the saving kindergartner has to do with how many posts you have. The more you post, the higher you go. You will "graduate" to other levels as you interact on the website. Glad you are here!

Oh believe me, I have to laugh at myself a lot! If I think back, I think I got a little confused at first myself. You are not alone!

                            • Hi Everyone
I'm back from a great holiday by the river. Even holiday's don't have to be expensive to be fun. We do a lot of kayacking, not the exhausting marathon type but just pottering around. One morning I spent ages gliding over the still waters with the sun reflecting on the millpond. The reflections of the trees were so clear that it was hard to tell whete the water stopped and the land started.

I followed a stingray as it moved every time the shaddow of the kayak came near. They are magnificent animals. We covered a lot of ground. Later I was out in a channel where the water was flowing quickly and the fish were jumping.

A morning's entertainment at zero expense. I took my fruit with me and got out on a sandbar that I only had to share with the birds and crabs.

Now I look forward to learning all the new things people have been commenting on.
