Re: Introduce Yourself
Hi!
I finally bit the bullet and joined... wow, I consider this place like a home on the internet - I've been coming here every day for waaayyy over a year, yet I've never gotten enough nerve up to do anything but lurk.
This site has helped me so much - it was through here that in Aug. of 2005 I opened my first ever savings account (an ING online one) and started my road into getting rid of my (foolish) teenage / early 20s debt - and increase my retirement.
So here goes my intro:
My name is Lisa.
I just turned 24 in Dec. 06 and was married last June. My husband Kevin and I live in South Carolina, where fortunately the cost of living is pretty low compared to what I've learned about other parts of the country. Combined, hubby and I will make around $50,000 this year (and thats with pretty good entry level jobs here).
We purchased our first home in March of last year (payment is only $675.00 / month) - its a nice ranch style 3 bedroom / 2 bath 1150 sq ft home on a half acre of land. We're in the subburbs, i guess you'd call it.. about 2 miles outside of our state capital.. but our place is nicely private due to a forrested area behind us and an undeveloped lot to our right (only one neighbor to our side! yay!).
I have been at my job for 3 years now and have bounced between 2% to 11% deferrals into my company's 403b (i now have about 4500 in there). For this year we have raised my contribution to 15%. Before we met, my husband had never managed finances nor could care less about them - so he's come a long way too (with my help..
) ..and as soon as he is eligble for his company's 401k plan in a month or so, we will be putting %15 of his into his plan also.
In the ways of debt we have 2 car payments (365 for mine and 280 for his) that will last for 2 to 3 more years, our home, and some remaining debt from our first few months of living together and getting control of our impulses and not wanting to spend spend spend like we did as singles! lol.
Anyway, it's great to finally join and have a "name" here.
I look foward to participating in the boards now instead of just lurking!
