I am a 40+ married mom of a two-year old daughter. I conquered credit card debt and started living within my means in my 20s. However, I did not begin to live frugally (or, as I prefer to think, wisely) until about 10 years ago. In the past, it was never that hard for us to live wisely because we were DINKS (dual-income, no kids). After my daughter was born, I stayed off work for awhile and then my husband quit his job to start his own business (a long-time dream). Fortunately, I have a good job that pays our regular bills, but things are definitely a bit more challenging when it comes to saving for college, retirement, home repairs, etc. I came to this site to find ways to build on the skills I've already learned.

Hey there, my name is Megan and I've just actually discovered this forum today. I'm pretty new to all things forum and never been on one before, but I asked myself "what am I interested in?" and the answer was SAVING MONEY!!! Yeah, okay, so I'm a financial geek, but only about my own money (Accounting/Bookkeeping would bring - and have brought - me to tears of stress, I know).

          Also, I'm a little weird....

Okay, so I live in Illinois with my husband, three fish, and that's about it. I'm working three jobs, only two of which pay (Secretary and bookstore clerk. The third (my passion) is working on being a writer, but no money there yet). Been money-minded for years, but always just in the panicky, there's never enough sort of way. Money was some sort of amorphous, terrifying THING that either was there, or wasn't, and I had no control over it. Then my husband and I started really buckling down on budgeting, saving, etc, and suddenly money is no longer scary! It's fun! My budget is my security blanket; with it, things stay under control! (Like I said, weird).

So I'm here looking for ways to kick some tail financially, save tons of money, and live happily ever after (or at least in financial peace). Hope to find some like-minded people here and have some fun!

I don't think I've done this yet. *lol*

I go by Selu on the 'net - selu gigage, simpleselu, and sisterselu. I am 27 yo and married to my sweetheart of 9 years. We don't have children but we have two wonderful cats whom we adore. I am a medical social worker and DH is a student and works in IT; right now we live in Ohio where we grew up and attended the state university but we are moving to our dream spot - Asheville, NC - in April/May 2007.

I've been on and off the frugal train but being an anal, detail person I gave up when I hit tight spots other than let things flow and work out. DH and I then found Dave Ramsey's TTMO and we knew that it was the right plan for us. We are in step #2 with about 1K in CC debt and 16K in private student loans.

Our dream is early retirement on some land in the Blue Ridge with a 1000 sqft cottage-style house and a big garden.

Hello! My name is Rhonda and I am a wife and mother of 5 teenagers from Pennsylvania. My day time job is as a librarian for a library system.

I am taking classes to get an accounting degree. Right now I am finishing up a Personal Finance class and absolutely love it. It has been my favorite class so far.

I have been budgeting for the past 12 years, but just got serious about paying down debt in the past 6 months. I have everything in Quicken and love using the Debt Planner to see how soon everything can be paid off. I am a true nerd!

There seems to be a wealth of information here and I'm looking forward to digesting it all!

Hello! My name is Carrie. I am a wife and SAHM to 2 DD's.

My savings obsession began about 10 years when I married a man who financed his failing business on credit cards. Very scary.

I am a huge Dave Ramsey fan. I'm listening right now as people scream they are debt free.
Until two months ago, we were debt free except our house. An accident caused us to buy a 2002 Taurus and take out a loan for $5000. We are keeping our available cash while we wait to hear if the Army is going to take my husband full time. If so, this will cause us to move and we'll need the cash. If it doesn't happen, the car will be paid in full ASAP.

I joined to learn more, as well as put my 2 cents of advice out there to those who are looking to become debt free!!! I'm not there yet, but I know it can be done.

                            Hi, everyone!

My name is Mimi. I'm a 21-year-old recent college grad living in Connecticut. I found these forums a few weeks back while randomly browsing, and I must say that I'm hooked. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and give great advice.

My relationship with frugality started with childhood, growing up in an immigrant family in New York City. Money was tight, cost-of-living was high, and still my parents paid for 6 years of private school plus 4 years of college (with the help of generous financial aid). I'm not sure how we made it, but somehow we did.

Now, it's my turn. I've been looking forward to the opportunity to make a living, support myself, and be financially independent, and I want to do it right.

Living frugally used to be a necessity. Now, I'm in a much better financial position, certainly compared to when my parents were first starting out. But for me, frugality has become more than just about money. Sure, money's the main deal, but it's also about self-discipline, awareness, and responsibility. It's a challenge, not only to get out of debt and save for an uncertain future, but also to minimize waste, maximize efficiency, exercise creativity, and not fall prey to the rampant consumerism that brainwashes you into believing that you "need" product X to feel loved/happy, get a job/chore done, etc..

I used to feel quite alone, finding that almost no one I knew shared a frugal philosophy. But finding this website has changed all that, and I'm really looking forward to joining this community.

                            best regards,
                            ~mimi
