More info on CNBC, 6 women out of 6.8 million J & J vaccines administered, and all were 18 - 48 women.

    Comment

This JJ pause could be enough to scare reluctant people from being vaccinated at all, causing illness/deaths to way more than 6 people.

I wonder how many of them were on birth control as that increases your clotting risk, as does smoking.

        * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

That's a legit concern. Bad press doesn't help the vaccination efforts.

Good points and good insights that the average Joe wouldn't know about.

About 1 in 1,000 women on birth control will develop a clot each year. There are about 50 million women on birth control. I don't feel like doing the math but that's a fair number of clots.

Dr. Fauci was live taking Q/A from reporters but not one reporter asked if there might be a link to birth control or smoking. One reporter asked if women 60 and over are safe to take J & J but not sure of Fauci's answer, but that reporter came close to asking about the correlation. I was hoping someone would ask the important question but what a let down.

I don't know if this WSJ article (link below) is behind a paywall, but here is a clip:

"Oral contraceptives can increase the risk of certain blood clots, but Dr. Marks said most of the women who developed clots after vaccination weren’t taking the drugs. There is no clear association between oral birth control and the clots seen in the women, he said. The agency is continuing to evaluate various risk factors.

This is a very, very rare event,” Dr. Marks said, adding that the agency recommended the pause in part to educate medical providers about spotting and treating the potential complication.

People who develop severe headache, abdominal or leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks after vaccination should immediately contact their healthcare providers, according to federal officials. Headaches within 24 hours of getting vaccinated are normal, doctors said. The risk of clotting among people who got the J&J shot more than a month ago is very low, said Anne Schuchat, the principal deputy director at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Doctors have documented a similar disorder after treatment with the blood thinner heparin. Dr. Connors and other blood specialists cautioned against using that drug to treat vaccine-associated clots because it could aggravate the condition.

The AstraZeneca vaccine and Johnson & Johnson’s both use so-called viral vector technology, in which genetic instructions for a key component of the novel coronavirus are placed within a harmless virus and then injected into the body to trigger immunity to the pathogen."

I got my second shot of pfizer yesterday. DH and I both. We are tired with sore arms.

As of today, 4/19, vaccination is open to everyone aged 16 and up. No tiers or qualifying conditions needed. Hopefully everyone who hasn't yet been able to get vaccinated will be able to do so soon. I saw that the US has now given at least one dose to more than 50% of the population which is fantastic.

At the beach a 65 yr old Asian guy I was talking with yesterday was smoking and said he will not be getting the vaccine due to not knowing its long term effects. I was thinking to myself that the cigarette he was smoking would kill him faster than the vaccine would.

Not to mention his higher COVID risk from being a senior citizen smoker.

Friend of mine owns a liquor store in Oregon. Most of his workers (younger) don't want to get a vaccine. Reason? "We are going to have to wear a mask anyway, what's the difference?"

Seems like if the gubmit wanted to get everyone vaccinated as quickly as possible, they might tell folks "your life will return to normal 30 days after you do so."

Of course, that's not going to happen. I told my wife a year ago when Big Brother reached in...this is all going to be "done" very quickly, but getting it "undone" is going to be a fight, every step of the way. That has turned out to be the case.

Wresting back our normal way of life is proving to be a tussle. Locally, statewide, and nationally. I'm just glad I live in rural Texas right now.

I agree with Texas that fully vaccinated people should not have to wear masks.
