We are traveling on Wednesday. I booked the trip a couple of months ago. I just sat down and checked prices and was able to rebook both our hotel and our rental car at lower prices.

Not a ton of money but that will pay for a meal or two.

We've got rain coming. Real rain. So I got up and cleaned what part of the roof I could, and cleaned all the gutters. Usually we pay someone to come through. Saved us a couple hundred bucks today....and I clean my own skylights Just in time for fall...we'll have our regular guy come out once everything is down and hit it again.

3. Reengaged on the process of getting my condo refinanced.

the power vent for my coal furnace was rattling horribly.
after taking it apart I diagnosed the problem.
one of the mounting bolts had snapped and the factory gasket had failed.
i made up a new gasket with some high temperature rtv sealant and installed a rivet where the broken bolt was after drilling it out

saved about $350

Prevention win this week thanks to DH.

We're having a house built. They left one of the upstairs windows out so they could pass the upstairs drywall through. After they installed that window, DH noticed they hadn't applied the sealing insulation foam that the rest of the windows have around them. He mentioned it to the site supervisor, who confirmed it needed to be done, but it didn't happen. (There was no more sealant on-site.) When the trim carpenter started to install the window trim (window wrap), DH realized that window was going to get wrapped without insulation/sealant so he popped over to Home Depot, bought a can, and quietly sprayed it in himself right before the trim went up. It's the sort of thing you'd never be able to see just from looking at the completed windows. It might show up in an infrared energy audit but at that point it I'm sure it would be much more work to remedy.

Caught 25 nice big channel catfish Friday. Had enough for a real nice fish fry with friends featuring; catfish nuggets, hush puppies and homemade coleslaw, plus (17) bags of fillet chunks for the freezer.

Yep they were nice, biggest fish was about 12 pounds, average size 3-4 pounders.
Properly cared for and prepared, it's some fine eating.

I always pay off my credit cards in full each month. Apparently, I fat fingered August and missed the statement balance by 3 pennies. It then triggered a $43 interest charge.

I called in asking how 3 cents triggers a $43 interest charge. Wasn’t even looking for a refund or a fee waiver, just wanted to understand the interest calculation. The CS rep waived the charge completely which was unexpected.

I don’t know if this is a win so much as it is stopping a loss but I’ll take it.

We have an impending win and a correlating loss.

DD turns 26 next week so she ages off our insurance policy. Our premium will drop by $110/month. Her new insurance kicks in on 10/1.

The loss is that her new insurance won't cover her therapy so we'll be back to paying for that out of pocket. I'm not positive but I think it's $185/session and she goes twice a month so $370/month. At least it's offset by the savings on our coverage.

There may be additional savings because I suspect her prescription meds will be cheaper on her new plan. She may also be able to get her OTC allergy meds covered by the new plan. If so, things may work out closer to even, though still a slight increased cost overall.

Another small house-under-construction energy loss prevention win this week: DH noticed a couple weeks back that 2 pieces of insulation had fallen down from the ceiling over our porch (which is part of our upstairs floor). He had been keeping an eye on it (it was left just laying on the patio), and when he noticed the construction workers had started installing the soffit(?) he asked them to reinsert the insulation, and they did.

Saved myself about $200 doing the transmission service on our RV myself, versus taking it to a shop. $135 for 3 gallons of spec fluid and filter and I was done in 20 minutes. This is the second time I've done it myself, so it's more like saving $400+ just on transmission services.
