I managed to book a rental car for our Florida trip in September. They are quite hard to come by. The first one I tried to book wouldn't go through because the booking agent is in England and my credit card wasn't cooperating. I found a second company that worked though.

I got cherries today at Aldi for $1.59/#. I don't think I've ever got fresh cherries that low ever!! We love cherries so it's a big win for our house. In fact, I bought 2 bags and made my first ever homemade cherry pie, it'll be our dessert tonight. Our oldest DD is driving in from out of state for the holiday weekend.

Fuel prices are insane. Filled up at the car side of a truck stop yesterday, $4.53/gallon for premium unleaded.
They were also accepting grocery store fuel discount points. I thought I had a shopper's card at the accepted chain of stores, but plugging in my cell number didn't work. Huh. So I plugged in our family's old phone number, a line we haven't had in 10 years. $1.00 per gallon discount. Thank you.
It almost felt like theft. Actually, it kind of was. I did look up the account when I got home, and it's still registered to my dad, and they still apparently still use it. I sent him a text stating I ripped off his fuel points by chance, sorry. He said he was glad I used them, they typically only fill up at Costco because it's a better deal. Thanks, dad!History will judge the complicit.

Big win for DW: She just got the notification that she was accepted to the Physical Therapy doctoral program she recently applied to!! It's gonna be busy for us, and we're not totally certain about what it'll cost us (need to determine what she'll receive from the GI Bill & if she's eligible for the Yellow Ribbon program). Worst case, it'll be as much as $36k/yr out of pocket for the next ~2 years. But to get her into the career she's been going after for over a decade? Worth every penny, and we'll cover whatever excess costs might exist no problem -- we'd just reduce our savings for the duration. Very excited for her.
Update: I'm 90% sure that her hybrid program (mostly online, but with 8-14 days of on-campus classes each semester, plus working with local PTs) will qualify her to receive the full housing allowance ($2,226/mo in this case). So even if she doesn't qualify for Yellow Ribbon (though I think she will), the housing allowance should cover most of the residual out of pocket tuition costs. We'll still need to cover her trips out to Philly, but if she gets Yellow Ribbon + full housing, the travel costs will all be easily covered.Last edited by kork13; 07-04-2021, 03:50 PM.

Went into the bank to deposit a check today. Picked up a swag bag with a sweet blanket, a mug, some mints, and a flashlight. Of course, the quality of this stuff isn't great, but it's about as free as something can be.

Two big wins yesterday.
Sold my cousin’s car, a 2020 Genesis. Got online quotes from CarMax and KBB. CarMax was a couple thousand higher. Then a friend mentioned that a place called CarDrop was across the street from CarMax and beat their offer when he sold his. Went there with the CarMax quote in hand and they beat it by $300 and got us a free Uber ride back to the house. Win #1
Had first showing of the house yesterday from a woman I had excluded from the realtor contract so no 5% commission if she bought it; just a flat $1,200 fee for his services. She made a cash offer for $3,000 over asking price. Win #2
