As inexpensive as the basic ones are, I may just buy a couple and donate them to our local mission.
I'm actually not surprised. A lot of people live in "temporary" housing provided through state agencies, which basically means they get put up in cheap hotel rooms. They generally have a tiny fridge but that's it. I had a number of patients over the years who were living that way. They got food stamps but were pretty limited as to what they could use them on since they had minimal fridge space, no freezer, and no ability to prepare any hot food. A microwave is life-changing when that's your situation.

I may actually start checking for them when I shop estate sales and thrift shops as well as the freebie stuff people give away online. We paid $55 for ours at Walmart but I'm sure I can find them for half that or less somewhat routinely given what I do with my reselling business. I'd be happy to gather them as I find inexpensive working ones, or free ones, and bring them over to these folks.

    1. We bought a new microwave in May to use while our kitchen was being renovated. Today we donated it to a local charity that supports people in need. The woman was practically in tears when I brought in in. She said microwaves and beds are their two most needed items. She has 30 people on the waiting list for a microwave. We're glad we were able to provide one and help in that way.

I'm not sure what happened...? Month or two ago I submitted receipts for a Mobil-1 oil rebate. I thought I had $5, maybe $10 coming on a virtual gift card. It arrived, and it was loaded with $25 and supposedly I'm getting a hat in the mail? Sure, whatever, don't need the hat, but the extra few bucks isn't a problem Small win.

I actually wasn't familiar with this particular organization until today. I was just reading up on them on their website and it turns out a friend from our synagogue is their treasurer and administrative assistant (which is probably how the connection was made). They primarily work in the town where I used to practice which is one of the poorest cities in America so I know the struggles people face there quite well having practiced in that community for 17 years. I may actually look into getting involved with them as a volunteer.

    2. Twice a year we attend an event that supports the Food Bank. There is a huge raffle and you get tickets by donating food items. We went to Aldi this morning and bought a cart full of groceries to donate on Thursday.

We are very fortunate and sharing that good fortune with others who are not so fortunate is definitely a win.

Good karma win disneysteve. In the bible it says by giving you'll reap 10 fold. The promise give and you shall receive tenfold captures the heart of God’s generosity. In Luke 6:38 KJV, Jesus assures us that when we give, God pours out blessings in abundance.

Fishindude, are you cool telling me the name of the stock? I've been looking at possibly expanding the companies I'm buying after I finish accumulating USB shares.

Also, I managed to crank out a bunch of push ups and sit ups, plus went for a run.

The lesson here is: making lots of small steps in the right direction will eventually get you where you want to go.

It is very overwhelming, far more than you realize until you're in the midst of it. And just forget about picking colors and all in advance. I can tell you that where you end up will not be where you expected to be. We love our new kitchen but it isn't at all what we had envisioned. It just evolved along the way. When we found a countertop slab we really liked (which wasn't the color we went looking for), that influenced what floor tile we bought. And those influenced what color backsplash tile worked well, which then helped determine what color we painted the room. The paint color was literally selected 2 days before the room was painted. The backsplash was also selected 2 days before it was installed.

The kitchen looks fantastic, congrats!! It's an investment, though not in the way that too many realtors will tell you ... Having a nice, well-designed kitchen just makes cooking easier & more enjoyable -- it's an investment in your quality of life!
