The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, congrats to your daughter and may she sell a lot of items. I haven't sold in months. I did get a low-ball offer on an item which I countered higher but the buyer dropped out.

She made her first sale yesterday morning! Profit just over $16.Originally posted by disneysteve View PostOur daughter listed her first 2 items for sale on ebay today on her account!
She and I went to an estate sale yesterday and she spent $30 on items to resell. And so it begins.

Our daughter listed her first 2 items for sale on ebay today on her account! I've sold a few things for her recently and we decided it was time for her to start doing it herself. We had entertained me taking her on as an employee but it's so much cleaner for her to do it herself. That way I don't have all of the paperwork and tax issues of having an employee. Plus I'm at a point where I'm slowing down on my selling activity. I absolutely could ramp it up and use her help but that's not my intent. I'd rather have her doing it herself and me helping her figure it all out. Plus, as long as ebay is still around, it is something she can do for the rest of her life. I've been doing it for over 28 years myself.

Yep. The one guy was making $6 million or something like that and estimates were that he was getting $5,000-$7,000 for throwing a game. People often commit crimes just for the thrill and to see if they can get away with it, not for the money. I remember when my wife managed a sporting goods store. They caught a customer shoplifting. He had just checked out with hundreds of dollars of golf equipment but set off the sensors because he stole a golf glove shoved in his pants worth a few dollars. He said it wasn't the money. It was just the challenge to see if he could.Originally posted by QuarterMillionMan View PostIt was mind blowing that pro athletes making millions would influence the outcome of a game by throwing a dirt baseball pitch or missing a basketball shot to help a friend make $20,000 to win a bet. They risk so little for so much, stupid people.

We do have many options, and sports betting was legalized here a while back as well. I don't get involved with that as I know squat about sports and I prefer to gamble on things with set predictable odds. It's impossible to predict the outcome of a sports game, and as recent events have shown, bad actors can conspire to intentionally alter the results. I'll take blackjack over guessing the spread of a football game any day.Originally posted by QuarterMillionMan View PostNJ has a lot of opportunities vs Los Angeles, hence why I resort to scratcher cards & lottery tickets which I can get at any liquor store or CVS vending machine. NJ even has AC 60 miles away from you. San Diego has about 15 Indian casinos but the average distance is 120 miles from Los Angeles. The closest 90 mile casino to Los Angeles is Yamaava (formerly San Manuel) in Riverside county but I don't like that place. A few years ago California even voted against sports betting, hence why I use Robinhood's prediction contracts which is very similar to sports betting.

It's been legal in NJ for over 10 years. I believe it was done as part of an effort to support Atlantic City which was losing ground to neighboring states adding casinos. The only caveat is that you have to physically be in NJ to play.Originally posted by QuarterMillionMan View PostYou’re lucky to have a legal online casino. Our nearest physical casino is about 10 miles away in Philly. There are a couple of others in and around Philly. Then Atlantic City is about 60 miles from us. Oh and Delaware Park is about 45 miles away. We have many options. Delaware is the best for physical casinos because they are smoke-free. PA and NJ haven't figured that out yet.

My neighbor hit $100,000 on a scratch off ticket a couple weeks ago.
Young family, they were ecstatic. Said they were going to replace one of their vehicles and pay off some things.

I can't believe what they charge for scratch offs now. They used to all be $1. Now there are ones that are $5, $10, even up to $30 I've seen. There may even be ones that are more than that. I can see dropping $1 here and there but $30? If I wanted to gamble that much or more, I'd just deposit that into my online casino account and play blackjack. Far better odds and a lot more entertaining.Originally posted by QuarterMillionMan View PostI never get tired of winning. One scratcher card won $20 & the other won $100.

I never get tired of winning. One scratcher card won $20 & the other won $100. Since I was at the liquor store I bought some lottery tickets & tequila. Powerball is $715 million for Saturday night's drawing.

Good point. The pit boss must have a formula to extrapolate how much a person wins/loses. Capture the buy in and initial bet amount (ie, $5, $100, $500, per hand), then the amount cashed out, and amount of time spent, and come up with some theoretical win or loss. No way can the pit boss keep track of let's say 6 tables packed with players.

I always wonder how accurate those are, especially for table games. Obviously if you've put your loyalty card into a slot or poker machine they should be able to track that with a high degree of accuracy. But when I hand my card to a live dealer and a pit boss comes by now and then and taps on the computer, are they really capturing everything?Originally posted by QuarterMillionMan View PostIt remains to be seen when the year ends when the casino provides a win/loss statement to see if I'll have a profit or loss for the year 2025.
