Finished up our pumpkin harvest yesterday, total 410 pumpkins.
Very dry year had harvest down a bit and pumpkins a bit undersize on average.
Delivered a load yesterday and will give the rest away over next couple weeks.
Puts a lot of smiles on faces and that's why we grow them.

Yeah the virtual "cards" can be a pain. I much prefer when they send a physical card, though even those are a bit of a pain.Originally posted by ua_guy View Post$49 on a prepaid virtual Visa landed in my inbox unexpectedly from a class action settlement yesterday. I never know what to do with virtual Visa cards, they're hard to use IMO because not all merchants allow split transactions online and/or if you buy something for less than the full amount on the card then you still have to disposition the balance. So I typically load them into Amazon and spend it on boring everyday expenses.
We just got the rebates for our new kitchen appliances. One card for $400 and one for $70. I'd much prefer to have gotten checks. I'm actually kind of surprised that it is cheaper for them to send cards. I would think checks would be more economical. Checks are certainly easier to use. Now I have to carry extra cards in my wallet and remember to use them when I have the opportunity. And keep track of the remaining balances because I'm not likely to use the $400 card all at once and maybe not the $70 one either.

Nice !Originally posted by james.hendrickson View PostGuys - I got an unexpected check from a class action settlement yesterday. Nothing like unexpected cash coming in your mailbox.
The check was for $176.75. I bought more stock.
Better go out to supper or have fun with that.

BJ, Great point - no, I'm paying zero commissions with schwab. I'm using their stock "slices" feature which lets you make minimum purchase as low as $5 for free. The downside is you can only buy stocks in the S and P. Their over the counter trades carry a commission.Originally posted by bjl584 View Post
assuming you get free trades?
seems unwise to keep investing such small amounts if you are paying commissions

Who still pays commissions on stock trades? It's been years since I've paid a commission to trade. I guess there are still "full service" brokers out there that charge but why would anyone still be using them?Originally posted by bjl584 View Post

No major wins - just lost of small consistent ones. Today, put another $15 into stocks, on top of the $45 from last Friday.
And - been doing push ups and sit ups every day this year since Feb.

Got through a routine colonoscopy today, seems like a victory to me.
The prep is far worse than the procedure.

I see it is same on the east coast as it is on the west coast when it comes to the lack of ceiling lights. In Hawaii every dwelling that I've live in had ceiling lights so when I moved to California was surprised with no ceiling lights and instead having to rely on lamps. Yes, I leave the switch on constantly and use the wall outlet for other electrical devices. You're right the newer shop lights are LED and not fluorescent.

When we bought our house, I hated that there were no ceiling lights in the bedrooms as I grew up in a house that had them. Instead, the wall switch controls one of the outlets so you can plug in a lamp. That's great except one lamp doesn't illuminate the whole room the way a ceiling fixture does. That also means you can't really use that outlet for anything else because it isn't always live. You can't plug in your clock or anything that needs constant power. It's a pain.Originally posted by QuarterMillionMan View PostI mounted 3 of those 4 footers for added brightness. My apartment doesn't have any ceiling lights which is weird and I guess tenants here plug in lamps for lighting. Two those 4 footers have mounts for old flourescent tubes which can be replaced. The 3rd one is newer which has a built in flourescent tube which cannot be replaced.
The newer shop lites are LED, not fluorescent. They've made them resemble traditional tubes but there's nothing to replace. When they die, which should be a very long time, you just replace the whole thing. They've gotten so cheap that it's not a big deal to do so. The new recessed lights in our kitchen are the same way. No bulbs. Just LEDs. If one dies, you pop out the whole thing and snap in a new one.

A man at the casino won $10,000. I congratulated him and asked if I could take a pic and he said it's fine. The machines is a $1 Quick Hits with a 2 credit max. His credits was a 0 which was his last spin when he hit the jackpot. So lucky.
