PA has been a mess because they keep fighting the governor's rulings. First it got overturned, then that got reversed on appeal. Now I think the reversal is getting appealed. It's nuts. Just follow the rules and stop fighting about it.

Now there are things that have been planned based on the initial reversal and they have to figure out what to do now that it got shot down again.

    • Regal cinemas is closing all US locations and a bunch in the UK as well. They say it’s temporary. I’m not at all surprised since every studio has postponed their releases. The theaters have nothing to show but old movies which isn’t a viable business model.

They say they are only closing temporarily so you should be okay assuming the reopen at some later date.

          • From CNBC, Regal CEO stated:

“Might be a month, might be two months, until the ... Covid-19 situation will be clearer. Maybe there will already be a vaccination,” he said. “It might take another month, but at the end of the day, we must have a clear lineup of movies before we reopen.” (full story here).

Its totally unclear when Regal will be able to open. Their stock was trading at 3.41 on August 6th, now its trading at .37 cents. That's basically worthless.

They'll be on life support for a while, and its entirely possible they wont be able to come back at all.

            • All quiet on the Michigan Front for the most part (lower east michigan - detroit metro area).

I guess over in more central michigan, there was 100-200 people infected at Michigan State University campus (typical for college students, especially because Michigan State is a MASSIVE party school....).

But ever since our massive infection early on in March/April, we've calmed down a lot here. Basically everything is open w/ the exception of the big even stuff ( theaters, movie theaters, most sporting events, and what have you). Gym's I believed just re-opened, but I don't know how wise that is... I'm going to just keep exercising outside (feels like its better for me anyway, even in the cold).

              Anywho, thats our michigan update.

I'm always a bit skeptical about those capacity limits. I assume they are based on maximum capacity, but other than the week before Christmas, and maybe not even then, they probably never actually reach capacity. So 25% may still represent a pretty good crowd, maybe even similar to what they get on an average day normally.

The limits make more sense at places with a clearly defined capacity like a theater or sports stadium. The place seats 50,000, so 25% means you can let in 12,500.

                  • The situation is worst out here. India Is in Denial about the COVID-19 Crisis

The country is headed for disaster as the pandemic devastates health services and livelihoods. India is now ahead of all other countries in terms of the number of new recorded COVID-19 cases per day. Only two countries are anywhere close: Brazil and the United States; and India has lagged behind those two countries in achieving a reduction in daily cases.

Is it a political issue there like it is here in the US? In our country, only one party is in denial. Unfortunately, they happen to be the party in charge at the moment.

I want to amend this because it's really not true. There are plenty of Republicans who understand that Covid is real and dangerous and deadly. They understand that masks and social distancing save lives. But the top leadership is in denial. Just this week, Mitch McConnell said that he hasn't been to the WH since the beginning of August because of their lack of adherence to safety guidelines. He was a little slow to react but he did ultimately catch on and start doing the right thing.

                        • 1 in 800 residents of North Dakota has died of COVID. In 8 other states, at least 1 in 1,000 has died from it.

Covid has killed more Americans in 9 months than the flu killed in the past 5 years combined, and it’s still getting worse.

Population of North Dakota = 762,000
Dividing that into 800 you get 952.
Is that what they are trying to say with that stat?

Yes. One out of every 800 residents has died of Covid. 954 people as of Monday.

                              • Here are the most up to date stats available from the CDC on North Dakota.
                                These are from 2017.

Covid is clearly more dangerous than the flu.
Looks like 147 deaths that year from the flu or 1 in every 5100
Heart disease tops the list with 1300 deaths or 1 in every 586
