  • Re: Introduce Yourself

Hi my name is Kitty, and live in Australia. A retired pensioner, who has made it a challenge and hobby to save money where I can. Stretching my very low pension as far as possible, so far I can live as if I had an extra $5000 to spend per year. By cutting down as much as possible and using as many discounts that are available to pensioners that apply and still have everything DEBT FREE.

I would like to share with you all my thoughts and ideas at times. Some are ideas that I have read at sometime in the past. I have put in a notebook my thoughts, plans and systems that work for me over the 45 years.

My goal for 2006-07 is to have ‘Cash in the bank’ to pay for painting of my house which is my next major need. Cost is half my annual pension or more. So this is my challenge for now! I have saved a bit so far with, what is earmark for painting the house but balance must come from my pension.

I do have a one bad habit, I pay cash for everything over $2000. If haven’t got the cash, I will not buy it. Anything under that it must by paid off within six months on a credit card. So you can see my challenge is a big one.

        Hi Chris
My quote is one I found a few years ago, I add word or two to it. Author is unknown. I have made it my motto in my quest to keep living in style on a pension.

Just joined the group. I'm a 50 plusser living in FL, USA.
I picked the user name "spend less"...which is my goal.

Within the next couple years my last two "college attending daughters" should be on their own (yeahh, right).

This should translate into an automatic "raise" for good ole dad.

At any rate, spending less than you make is my simplistic understanding of finances. I hope to expand that knowledge here.

Looks like a lot of hard work goes into the upkeep of this site.
            Thanks for the effort.

I'm a 21 year old student living in Scotland, UK. I came across the site when I typed "savings tips" or something like that in Google. I find it helpful even though I don't live in the USA.

Hi, I'm kichu, married to a wonderful man and have a beautiful 16 month old daughter. We came to USA almost 4 yrs back. After the baby I had to leave my full tme job and now attending college for my graduate studies. After I found out about this site, I was amazed to see how the little things can make a big difference in your finances. For eg. I switched my car insurance to another company, with the same coverage but 400$ cheaper than what we used to pay. Thanks a lot for great tips. I dont know if I'll be a great help for you, but I'll definitile love to share my money saving tips.
I've created a very helpful budget for our finances and have set a goal to reach every month. So I know how much more I am allowed to spend till the rest of the month. I take it as a challenge and I'm very excited to reach my goal.
                ENOGH OF TALKING FOR NOW!!!!
Thanx again for keeping up this site.

Hi. I'm Melinda. I live in Kansas with my hubby, 14 yo son, 12 yo daughter, and 7 yo daughter. I still consider myself a SAHM, although, currently I'm working a small 3 1/2 hour job as a teachers aide each afternoon at my daughter's elementary school. The school was desperate to find someone and I thought the extra money sounded good! I will only be working this school, though. Even if the school wants me to work again next school year, I'll decline the offer. I have found that it costs me more money to work than stay at home.
Anyway, I've reading over many of the post and this is just the place for me! I feel like I already know many of you just from reading about you all through your posts!

Hello! I've been lurking this site for months, reading the helpful advice and pondering new ways to save and reduce debt. Lots of great ideas here! My husband and I are working on eliminating the last of our CC debt and building up an emergency fund. We've been better and worse over the years with our money, sometimes paying no attention at all -- with predictable results -- but we've learned what works for us (automated bill-pay!) and are improving slowly.
