  • Re: Introduce Yourself

Hi Rico, we are glad you are here and hope we can help you. I was lucky, my husband and I have never made much money, but we have lived on a budget for so long, we never have any problems with money. I use the oldfashioned envelope method and put away 1/4 of our expenses every week. In 40 years, I have never paid a bill late. The trick is to pay yourself first (save) each week, no matter how small a sum. Put it aside and don't touch it.

      Javan Here.

Living in Northern NY. Got divorced about 2 years ago, still in the financial rebuilding phase. Some months I have $$$$, some months, only $$$. It's a yo-yo for sure. I am here to learn what I am doing wrong with my money.

      Oh, for stats, 37, M.

Hi, I am brand new to this site - I have no clue how this site works. I am a 22 year old mother of almost 2 (im due in late march) I have a only and a half year old daughter already. My bf and I are on one income which means money is very tight around here. We live in the foothills of North Carolina. I want to learn how to save more money than I know how to do and share the information with my bf as he has no money management skills and spends most of the money. My name is Jackie

Hi, i'm also brand new to this site!! I found it in while doing a search looking for ideas on saving money and budgeting. I'm a mother of 5.......ages 14, 11, 9, 4, and 2!! My husband and I both work to make ends meet. I just re-entered the work force when my baby turned 1. I love my job and I can't beat the hours and flexibility, but it's hard working and having such a large family. I'm always looking for ways to save, BUT i have to admit I love spending money! My husband on the other hand doesn't spend a dime except on necessities. I'm hoping this forum will help us as a family save more, keep me motivated to SAVE instead of SPEND, and to share great ideas along the way!

Hey all, my name is Josh and I've just recently put my own business on the books. In theory I am an independent computer technician but so far I've only been selling computer parts on eBay. Back in October I asked my former employer for a raise (basically asking to be paid for the 50 hours I was working instead of 40) after he refused I posted 2 weeks notice. As a result of being unemployed in the eyes of everybody other than myself, I have since learned how to live on about $700 per month (yeah I cheat a little by splitting rent).

Not doing much special, the $700 is before CC payments, those I consider optional expenses even though I technically have to pay them, minimum payments would be $75 or so on those... Rent is $1125 split 3 ways (375), Cable internet $45 split 3 ways, phone land line $50 split two, cell Phone $55, food $120, that totals $590 which leaves me with enough for 2 tanks of gas. I only do the $700 thing if I'm having a tough month, I have enough in the bank account to "get by" for two months.

What do you do about car insurance, electricity, water , heat, etc? How do you eat on $120 a month, that is only $4 a day! I am impressed!

oh yeah, forgot about insurance... that's $250 every 6 months (the car is 32 years old and I'm 25) so I guess I trimmed it down to $740 or so a month. Utilities are included in our rent so there's no expense there.

A can of soup and some pasta and ingredients will usually work for a day of food... or some cheese sandwiches and eggs etc. If I make food in the right quantities it comes out pretty cheap. And there's also no shame in PB&J for dinner
