It's not my own travel, but with me deployed & vaccinations all going around, my wife has had a pretty steady stream of family helping her with our kids, or driven down to her family with the kids. We're also flying out a friend of hers for a solid 5 weeks in July/August as more or less a live-in nanny while DW tries to focus on a couple classes, and my father is flying up during part of that period to take my boys camping as well.

I am flying to southern Illinois in August and staying in a vacation rental for a week. The purpose is to visit my kids, who now both live in the same town in southern Illinois. My mom may come too, but I'm not certain yet. I won't need to rent a car, my daughter has offered to loan me hers. (She seldom drives it she says).

Just got back from a fishing trip to Alaska. No big surprises, had to wear mask the entire time in airports and commercial airlines, but back to normal after that. No shake down, questions about vaccine or anything extra at the airports. Masking wasn't required anywhere in Anchorage or on the small "bush plane" flights to and from our remote destination. Reasonably normal travel.
I've heard Canada is going to open up to fully vaccinated Aug 9, but they've backed up the opening dates a couple times already, so believe that when you see it.

Just got back from the beach in Delaware. Business as usual. Place was packed, people having a good time enjoying their freedom and not living in fear. It felt good.
Family members went to alaska for 2 weeks. They said it was business as usual. Plenty of tourists but AK is low key in general. They also found it amusing that you had to wear a mask on the plane unless you were eating or drinking, then it was perfectly safe to remove the mask, lol.

Going to Maui in August, got fairly lucky with car rental price but still higher than normal. Looking to do our Switzerland/Italy trip in mid September which we canceled last year. Still not sure how that one will go. I'm more nervous about having to get a covid test to return to the US then I am getting actually sick from it. Although we're vaccinated, I'm worried about testing positive and having to quarantine for a week or so, last thing I want to do is sit in an Italian hotel room and wait it out not to mention the cost of it all. Time will tell....

I researched Hawaii's safe travel website, 1) upload vax card, 2) get QR code 24 hours before flight by answering a health questionnaire, 3) no testing required upon arrival (I think), and I'm fully vax'd but I don't think I could have fun having to wear masks at the airports and for a 6 hour flight, except when actively eating/drinking. Too cumbersome.

I didn't mind them on the plane except they do make it hard to eat/drink.Steve
* Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
* Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
* There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

Last week I drove from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Numerous times from my room at Sun Coast, I would catch the elevator down to the casino or restaurant in order to get something to eat. As soon as I exited the elevator and saw people wearing masks, it dawned on my that I forgot to wear my mask and had to back track and go back up to my room to get my mask. It was my fault for forgetting to wear my mask but it was frustrating.
