Here in WA, there are a lot of people who simply do not register their vehicles anymore because it's so expensive to do so. The police are fighting with legislators and saying they will not enforce laws around lapsed registrations because they believe the legislature created the problem with excessively high fees. That's not how things work, but so goes both rogue legislative and rogue police bodies. Roads and transit have to be paid for and that isn't accomplished with regressing registration fees back to an even $30 like they were in the early 1990's.
I think you understand that, and I'm trying to steer clear of strictly politics. Car tabs being a local example. Funding national priorities is the larger discussion. Note: I don't think we've seen the reduction in spend, or reduction in taxes commensurate with with the current administration promised. With carte blanche power, the responsibility rests on them to do so, if that is truly a priority.
