  • I just accepted a new role at work and successfully negotiated a $22k annual increase from my current salary.

The first offer they made was fair but on the low side of what I was targeting. I was nervous to ask for more but figured it couldn’t hurt anything just by asking. I was so thrilled when they came up to meet me in the middle (which is actually the number I was targeting, I gave them a higher number expecting them to meet me in the middle).

    Yay!

          • Renovating the kitchen and the faucet we wanted was back ordered 8-13 weeks. Found same one on eBay, brand new open box for $100 cheaper than new sealed box. Not to mention I don't have to wait 2+ months.

Congrats. That's great! And good for you for asking for what you felt you deserved.

                • Especially since her back surgery in April but even before then, my wife wasn't happy with the chair she was using for sewing. It was one of our kitchen chairs and really wasn't meant for that purpose and didn't give good support. Since her surgery, she really couldn't use it at all.

We found out that there is an office furniture outlet not far from us that sells both new and used furniture like desks, cabinets, and chairs. We went over this morning and checked out their used chair inventory. My wife tried multiple chairs and found one she liked. Not only was it used but it also happened to be the cheapest one she tried at $59. Paid the man, tossed it in the van, brought it home and cleaned it up, and she's good to go. I'm quite sure a brand new $59 chair wouldn't be anywhere near as good, and a comparable new chair would be way more than $59. That's our win for today.

                  • Update to my bottle cap bonanza.

I decided to divest myself of most of the bottle caps in bulk. I could make more money selling them individually but there is the very real risk of flooding the market and crashing the values and I have no interest in sitting on them for months or years, bringing out one or two at a time, to avoid that. Let someone else deal with it and I'll get back to buying and selling "normal" stuff that I can list as soon as I bring it home.

I sold a total of 404 caps for $825 today. That brings my total on the lot to $3,417. I paid $10 three weeks ago. This guy will turn around and make money on them and that's fine with me. I still have a bunch left that I can sell, too. He doesn't sell on ebay so we won't be directly competing with each other. As far as I'm concerned, it's a win-win even if I don't make another penny from them. I got 340 times what I spent. I'm good with that.

                    • When we were having our house built, we decided not to pay the builder to paint the garage walls.
                      DH painted them this week!

                      • So here is a DIY win for you all. A while back my laptop decided it wanted to stop powering up. So I did a bit of research on line and figured out that it was the battery. I went ahead and ordered a new battery - which only cost me $150 bucks - much less than the cost of a new laptop - which was $750 (ish) new.

The photo above is my laptop and my messy table I used to fix it.

Totally saved the cost of new laptop by fixing it myself - huge win.

Congrats! That is quite the savings. I have also seen musical instruments on ebay.

That's quite a profit on something that a lot of people would throw away!
