Kork my ebike's cruising mph on a flat straight away with no wind is 17 mph with no effort and just twisting the throttle. With tail winds I can hit 20 mph again with no effort. If I want more speed I paddle w/gears and easily hit 25 mph or more. It takes a lot of brakes to stop that kind of momentum.

That's awesome! It pays to have friends in the know.Originally posted by bjl584 View PostMy truck wouldn't start yesterday. Turn the key and nothing. I called my friend who is a mechanic, and he told me a common issue with my truck is that the 40 amp fuse for the starter motor will blow. $4.99 for the fuse and my truck started right up

I love higher interest earning savings. I have a credit union high interest savings that gets 3.92% up to $1500, which comes up to around $4.50 a month that I immediately transfer to another account. If the account accumulates more than the $1500, the rate goes WAY down. But I love that it is an easy $60 a year. I just wish I could keep more than $1500 in there.Originally posted by QuarterMillionMan View Post$415 a month in interest @ 3%, it's sort of like an extra paycheck from a second part time job.

The good thing now is that it’s quite easy to earn 4% and more on your cash with CDs and T bills so you can beat that 3.92% very easily with as much money as you want.Originally posted by crazyliblady View Post

What brokerage do you use? I use Vanguard but you can do it with Fidelity or Schwab or whoever.Originally posted by crazyliblady View Post

I have my retirement account with TIAA, but I don't have a brokerage. I know to get a brokerage account, you have to put a certain amount of money into the account, which is probably beyond my abilities currently. What about I bonds?Originally posted by disneysteve View Post

You can only buy I Bonds at the Treasury Direct site (which is a pain in the butt but it's the government so I'd expect nothing less). You can buy up to $10,000/person/year.Originally posted by crazyliblady View Post

There is no minimum to open a Vanguard brokerage account. I think the minimum Treasury bill purchase is $1,000 however.Steve

Minimum holding period one year. Lose 3 months interest if you cash out before 5 years.

Thank you! That's so cool. I did not know you could buy an i bond for so little and that the interest is so high. I will definitely set up an account next January and have part of my tax refund put there. If you have your taxes done by a tax professional, do you have to take IRS Form 8888 with you to the meeting with the agent?

Crazyliblady, probably if the tax accountant is good they'll have the forms with them or electronic access to them.Originally posted by crazyliblady View PostThank you! That's so cool. Also, why wait on buying the bonds? Why not get them now?james.c.hendrickson@gmail.com
