People in 1C can self-isolate and limit their exposure. People in 1B can’t. They are the ones more likely to get infected and subsequently expose others.

    • Good point. That makes perfect sense. This is the CDC's guidelines for 1A, 1B, 1C, etc.

The numbers are horrifying, but unfortunately not to the people with the power to do something about them.

            • QMM, I really don't think the public understands how dire something like that is. That means nowhere to put the person who has a heart attack or stroke. Nowhere to put the patient just out of major surgery. It's not just about COVID. It means that a critically ill patient might need to travel to a distant hospital to get treatment.

Thankfully, I'm getting the first dose of my COVID vaccination tomorrow afternoon. There is a glimmer of the light at the end of the tunnel.

                • It looks like not just Los Angeles but 11 counties in southern California are at 0% ICU capacity, which makes things even more dire. I'm guessing Riverside county, Imperial county, Orange county, San Diego, Ventura, Kern, Santa Barbara, etc.

wow we had 17 new community cases and our state went into lockdown...we have had 563 cases of covid (1.67 million people) many of these are people who are coming back to australia from overseas...they all have to quarantine for 2 weeks...we have had 4 deaths....and we think our numbers were high..we have had just over 28,000 cases and 908 deaths...we think these are high numbers...can't imagine seeing that many sick people...or deaths each day.

Disneysteve so glad you are getting the vaccine tomorrow...is it only 1 shot or do you have to have several?

It is 2 doses 3 weeks apart.

                      • "In Los Angeles County, officials say, an average of two people are dying every hour. And one in every 80 people there is thought to be infected."

“Our hospitals are under siege and our models show no end in sight,” Dr. Christina Ghaly, the director of health services in Los Angeles County, said Thursday."

And still, people want to ignore the rules, keep their businesses open, gather with friends and families, go on vacation, and more. As long as it doesn't directly and personally impact them, they simply don't care. There's just no way to get through to people who refuse to acknowledge reality.

I do feel for these business owners.
They have been painted into a corner.
Close in name of safety and watch your livelihood implode right in front of you, or take your chances and stay open so you can at least stand a chance at surviving and providing for your family.
If the government wants to shut these people down, then they need to help them financially and not turn their backs on them while Walmart and Amazon take over the world.
We're being told that we all need to be in this together, but the reality of it is that we are not.
I foresee the new administration crafting the largest economic stimulus package in the history of our nation.
If not, a depression awaits us.

I agree 100%. We need to shut everything down and then immediately start UBI payments.

Unfortunately, it won't have a chance of passing unless the Democrats win in Georgia.

                              • 1) Thoughts on politicians getting the vaccine (ie, Pence & wife Karen, Biden & wife Jill, congress people, etc)?
                                2) What about the rich wanting to purchase the vaccine early?

To me it is so unfair for the average Jane Doe or John Doe such as myself.
