Hello everyone. I'm from the Southwestern part of the US. I'm retired due to disability and am, well, over 49, lol. I am married (for a long time) and have a grown son. I have 2 dogs. I do quilting and crafts in my spare time to make gifts for family and friends.

I'm not new to being frugal or saving money but have come across a "hard time" financially and found this board by doing a google search and I'm so glad I did.

Now that I've introduced myself, where would be the best place to "spill my guts"?

Hi Dewdrop! Welcome to our forum! I'm fairly new myself and I am well over 49 to and am also retired! LOL But we still need to watch our spending and save...and in my case, pay off debt which is a form of saving too! I have been married 43 years as of yesterday and have 4 grown children, 6 grandchldren. No dogs though. We decided no kids, no pets, we want to be FREE!! We really enjoy our retirement...though, actually we do have a grandchild visiting just now. :-)

Spilling your guts? ...well, you are welcome to post about anything you want ...we are here to try and help each other. Or you can start a journal like I did recently.

Hi everyone. I am new at this. I have never even talked on a forum. So, if I make any mistakes please be patient with me.

I am 34 and I live Alabama. I have been married for 16 years and I have to boys Michael (13) and Justin (11).

I found this forum on google.com . I was searching for a place to go to talk to someone about OVER SHOPPING. I really have this problem. I don't go as far as being really in debt. I have only 2 credit cards that I use and I haven't maxed them out.

I hope I am starting this out right.

Welcome synthia. We always enjoy having new people looking for information. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like in the forums. This group is quite friendly and helpful in giving a variety of options and opinions to help you save money.

I don't think there is a thread in the general forums dedicated to shopping addiction yet. There is an article

If you have specifics or just want to get ideas from others on how to try and curb the spending, feel free to begin a new forum topic.

While the members will be able to help in ways to possible curb your spending, please remember that shopping addiction is usually a sign that other things are wrong and getting professional help in addition to this site is advisable.

[B]Hello, my name is Christine. I am 24yo from Connecticut, and joined this site for many reasons. I have been working full time for the past two years while earning a graduate degree, and have recently been promoted at my job.

I now have a high rent, car loans, student loans, credit card debt (fortunately, one Mastercard, but almost maxed out), and many many bills that I tend to "forget" about. Not too mention the high gas prices and a 30 mile commute to work. I live with my boyfriend who doesnt have time to grocery shop (so I pay for food), and I really do enjoy a few alcoholic beverages a week (which certainly adds up). And, although I feel like I'm always being stingy-I don't go on shopping sprees, I try not to stop for coffee on my way to work, I don't go out to dinner or lunch, I don't even travel much or go to the movies, etc-I feel like the debt is endless. And, I cant save a darn penny.

What bother's me the most is that I pay $1100/mo to rent a house when I know that I pay more in rent than some pay in a mortgage. Therefore, my biggest reason for joining this site is to learn tips for saving in general, and advice for saving on a down payment for a home.

My name is Keri Ann, online you'll find me as Keritsubo. I'm a 20 year old college student... currently my bills consistent of having enough money for gas to get to school, groceries, and my cell phone. I'm lucky enough to work in the same place I go to school. Bad thing is the government tells me how much money I can earn as a work study but then they also give me reduced taxes. Plus I guess everything they do take out of my check is refunded come taxes. Yah! But anyway...

I'm in a long term, long distance relationship with a man pursuing his graduates while working full time. I'm coming up on finishing my associates and do plan to continue on with my education to a Ph. D. level, which is a goal of my significant other as well. I will be moving with him come this Spring and will most likely be appointed charge with keeping track of finances. That's fine... my worry lies in that I am a college student who can not take on the jobs that a normal college student my age has (waitressing, sales associate, etc.) because of my physical limitations. I need an office job that's flexible with my class schedule. Still haven't decided if I'll be part time or full time student... but I will most likely be working. I"m coming here to learn some tips before I'm thrown into the new world of living on my own. Thank goodness I'll be with my boyfriend who already has plenty of that experience it seems but we'll both be learning...

nice to meet you and a forewarning that my studies are currently intense so despite my internet addiction I probably won't be posting much until the Holiday breaks.

I'm out is Southern California. Because I chose to move to a better school district, nicer neighborhood and closer to work, my mortgage is now 2/3 or my take home pay. I'm not sure how I found this site but I'm glad that I did. I'm a divorced mom with 4 kids. One is grown. I have small medical expenses. I just got one for $250 (DS sliced hand open and I had to go to an out of network hospital). I also am topped out on my small Visa (I owe 950 on 1,000 card). My car is paid for, I've financed a car for my oldest, who had fallen on hard times but thankfully just got a new job so I had been making the payments. I am also 20 minutes from work. I have a small savings ($2,500), a few CDs ($1,000) about $300 in an ING account and maybe another $6,000 in mutual funds that is in a deferred comp account that I can't touch unless I prove hardship.

A friend on a yahoo group just got laid off. Her unemployment just pays for her necessities. If I were laid off I couldn't even pay my mortgage. I don't think I'll be laid off, but it sure was an eye opener. I don't have any other source of income and just trying to put aside $50 a month is really hard.

I'm glad I found this group and look forward to reading all the money saving posts.
