Closing the year's books. Everybody give yourselves a pat on the back for another year of payment stricken off the mortgage.

          Merry Christmas to y'all!
          Mortgage Principal : $136K

          I am no longer , I'm .

Remember that $28K I had saved before for my kids' college fund which I slashed down to $14K last year to pay mortgage down? Well, I slashed further the $14K to $7K. Then I threw in most of my refund check to get the balance down to where it is.

            refund check - what's that?

why not change your withholding and have more cash during the year to put towards your mortgage monthly?

Thanks. I've always wanted to do this but always get brushed aside by me. This time I will research it on our company site. I guess also in a way I enjoy the refund check as a bonus I get every year even though it's not really.

              • I put in $200 on the "Allowance". Is that what you guys do to your withholding tax? Putting dollars on the "Allowance"?

It was not an easy decision. Now I can wait 2 months till my June payment. Payoff will be Dec 2016.

Hope that was a good move.

On my W-4, I select Married claiming 1. that is how I manage my tax withholding. Your way probably works too, I am just not familiar with it.
