Hello, It’s Been A While!

April 11th, 2020 at 08:23 AM by VS-from-oz

Well where have the months gone? It’s been forever since I’ve blogged and now I can see that my blog is now retired - it says the last entry is December 2018 however I know I did do a couple of entries last year but I think they got wiped when the site got hacked. Anyway I miss you guys and I have been lurking, just haven’t got around to actually doing a blog entry. Who could’ve ever pictured what is going on with the world right now? It’s insane.

I’m currently...

Friday Ramblings

April 10th, 2020 at 11:41 PM by Amber

This has been a day from hell. I’ve literally spent four hours on the phone trying to decipher a law that consists of a 174 pages with our CEO.

Why she refuses to hire a lawyer only God knows why. When you calculate the hours spent by myself, her and other employees dealing with this particular problem, a lawyer would have guided us in less than 30 minutes for far less. It’s ridiculous.

I’ve been asking for counsel since I started at this place and with the new...

Stimulus Update - IRS Site Updated

April 10th, 2020 at 11:31 PM by Monkey Mama

The IRS updated their website:
Text is https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payments and Link is https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payments

The IRS has created a new website that allows non-filers to request the stimulus (economic impact) payments. Just go to the link above and you will see more info.

Individuals receiving social security benefits are not required to use this new tool to receive their payments. That said, you'd want to check it out if you have dependents and receive social security benefits (and haven't filed tax returns for 2018 or 2019). This is the only way you can let the IRS know that you have eligible dependents, in this situation.

The IRS also announced that a website for taxpayers to enter direct deposit information, and a website to check the status of your stimulus payment, will be available next week.

They also have a reminder (on the link above) to update your address (the usual channels) if the IRS doesn't have your most current address.

Waiting for spring's arrival

April 10th, 2020 at 11:22 PM by Fern

I am waiting for the weather warmup, which here in the Northeast, will happen on Easter Sunday, when we'll see a high of 58 degrees.

That's when I plan to do some seed planting: I've started red peppers already, and I plan to do eggplant, broccoli and butterfly weed in my little peat pots. I really have an extreme shortage of indoor space, and just a limited number of grow lights in a cool house, but I'll figure something out. To hedge my bets, I will reserve a certain number...

generation X made for this

April 10th, 2020 at 11:00 PM by LivingAlmostLarge

I read all these articles talking about how generation Xers have been made for this moment. Staying at home, doing nothing. That we were born and raised to it. Truth. It was funny they called us the least parented generation. We were the kids raised latch key because women were either going to the workforce or they were getting divorced and going back to work.

We were the generation of kids who rode the bus, made a snack, did our homework, often did laundry, helped with...

savings and spending

April 10th, 2020 at 10:42 PM by LivingAlmostLarge

Called ameriprise and we are getting some sort of premium relief. What it is and how much we are getting back. They have no idea. But it's something and I'll take it!

LuckyRobin asked will people change their habits after this financial hit? The irresponsible people? I think there are more than few factors at play. I think that yes there are many irresponsible people.

I also think that a lot of people have change their way they view employment and a lot of people are...

Debt Update as of 4/10/20 - How's Life?

April 10th, 2020 at 10:11 PM by Banker Gurl

$1519.89 paid off in the last 2 weeks!! WOW!

It is finally here! A ZERO!!!! Store Loan is officially paid off today! It started at $14,560.82!! As mentioned on my last update, we will now have a $300 snowball to send to MO's mortgage each month. So very excited for this!

Renter #1 is behind on rent again, she is blaming the corona business....but since this is like her 4th month in a row being late on rent, I would say it is safe to say that regardless of corona...

I'm still alive. Plus, big news.

April 10th, 2020 at 05:08 PM by Thriftorama

Geesh. I was thinking about you guys today and when I logged in I realized it'd been a whole year since I posted last. That's probably a jerky move for a cancer patient. Y'all probably thought I was dead!

I'm happy to report that I AM STILL ALIVE!

A lot has happened. A LOT. I'll try to keep it short and organized.

1. I'm in remission. What does that mean? I have no visible tumors on my CT scans. As of February this year.

This is HUGE because it rarely/never happens...

OTC Order

April 10th, 2020 at 02:07 PM by CB in the City

I ordered my free OTC items from Walmart (via my Medicare Advantage plan). I was skeptical about how quickly it would be filled, considering all that's going on, but this morning I got an email with delivery dates -- the 17th and 18th. They are the one vendor I just can't get to change to my correct address, so I will have to look for the package at the most likely place it will be mis-delivered. Who knows, maybe it will come to the right place this time! Wouldn't that be nice.

I...

are you spending or saving?

April 10th, 2020 at 02:40 AM by mumof2

Our spending really hasn't changed but our daughter has moved back home and she has just started a fulltime job this week but she gets up at 6am to get ready for work and it is so cold here in the mornings and nights...so instead of turning on the ducted heating we have bought her a smaller heater just for the mornings...other than that and material for face masks we haven't really bought anything...although our gas will go up as next week as hubby starts treatment and has to go...

Another Housing Refund

April 9th, 2020 at 08:07 PM by Creditcardfree

Our oldest daughter received her housing refund of $963.79. It seems lower than expected and I haven't yet had the motivation to investigate and do the math. I don't see other parents complaining about wrong amounts, so I expect it is probably right.

My hope is that she will ultimately put this amount on her student loan debt, which she only had to take out this final year (her fifth year, two degrees). The total debt she took out was $5,500. Maybe she can round up and make...

We're AOK

April 9th, 2020 at 05:28 PM by My English Castle

Like most of you, we're still home, still on three computers in three different rooms with one coding, one learning, one teaching--and one barking to liven things up.

Groceries are being delivered--for the most part for which we're grateful. We're walking, playing monopoly, and cooking a lot.

I planted spinach, we raked the yard, and my CSA guy delivered three pounds of spinach today. We like spinach.

In decluttering efforts we've given away plastic Easter eggs to...

Walgreens, Again

April 9th, 2020 at 03:39 PM by CB in the City

I had a prescription refilled yesterday (electronically) and this morning I went to the Walgreens drive-through to pick it up. I took advantage of the opportunity to buy a few more items without having to go in a store. I spent $27, which included the prescription. I got paper towels, canned pineapple, tomato soup, crackers, hair conditioner, and a bag of mini chocolate bars.

Buying stuff there is always hit or miss. I check online ahead of time and only ask for items that...

Checking in

April 9th, 2020 at 02:45 PM by Steve

It's been 2 weeks since I posted. Things are going reasonably well. Work remains slow but also very stressful. I'm having dreams about work pretty much every night. Several of my coworkers have said the same. Constantly working with the threat of catching COVID from our patients is really taking its toll mentally on all of us.

As part of the Emergency Operations Plan, they have all of us urgent care providers getting oriented in the hospital so that when the surge hits, they...

Virus Strikes Again, Very Close to Home

April 9th, 2020 at 12:08 PM by Fern

In a previous post I mentioned that my neighbor who lives behind me got the virus. He was finally feeling better for several consecutive days. For 3 weeks it was very touch and go as his body fought the virus; one day he'd be good, the next day he thought he was dying.

My neighbor is married and around my age. They bought their house in the woods about 15 years ago and because he was making very good money, they over-improved the house, doubling its square footage to about 5,000...

Thinky Thoughts

April 9th, 2020 at 05:08 AM by Lucky Robin

I know I already posted today, but I am having thoughts. They keep making a big deal about people not being able to make rent next month. And what I am wondering is if there is going to be any kind of financial changes in people's lives on the other side of this. There are so many people who have been irresponsible with money for their entire lives. They have lived with debt because there was always money coming in to pay it and now they are experiencing what life is like without...

Some Big Changes

April 8th, 2020 at 10:04 PM by Lucky Robin

DH was just told that they will only be working 32 hours a week for the next two weeks. Its because they are waiting on another section of the project to be finished before they can proceed forward with theirs. They also have decided to stop matching in the 401K, but hope to be able to catch that up at the end of the year if things are better. The 32 hours will not affect qualifications for medical benefits.

I did an emergency budget template up, but don't have the exact...

Possible Check

April 8th, 2020 at 02:47 PM by klarose

In addition to the stimulus check, I have heard that my secretary job is most likely going to to pay me my average hours for April and May!

That would be great, especially since husband's overtime is drying up and without it we can't really make extra payments on anything.

I look forward to the day when our debt is gone and we can live comfortably without overtime or 3 jobs.

If the stimulus and my check from work pan out I am hoping I will be able to pay off the construction...
