Meijer stores only close one day a year (Christmas Day). The store often closes early on Christmas Eve and Thanksgiving Day to give its employees time to spend with their families. If you’re doing some last-minute food shopping for the holidays, this can be important to keep in mind.
The holiday schedule and hours listed above are general, so there may be some exceptions. It’s always a good idea to call your local Meijer to verify its specific holiday schedule. Also, note that these are only planned closures for the year. Meijer may also close due to inclement weather, remodeling, or other events that may occur throughout the year.
Meijer Hours of Operation
In addition to the Meijer holiday schedule, it’s important to be aware of the store’s regular business hours. Most Meijer locations are open between 6:00 am and 12:00 am US Eastern Time. Keep in mind that certain departments may close earlier or open later than the store itself.
For example, on weekdays many Meijer pharmacies don’t open until 9 am and close at 8 pm. On weekends, the pharmacy typically opens at 10 am and closes early at 6 pm. It’s also important to note that certain pharmacy services such as walk-in health screenings may only be available on a limited schedule from 10 am to 4 pm.
The bakery, deli, and customer service desk also tend to close before the store itself. In our experience, the bakery opens at 7 am and closes around 8 pm, so keep that in mind if you want to order a cake. The deli is generally open from 9 am until 9 pm, but luckily you can grab pre-sliced cold cuts from the cooler outside of those hours. Customer service desk hours vary, but you can usually expect it to open around 8 or 9 am and close between 8 and 10 pm.
The Meijer holiday schedule may affect the hours of different departments and cause them to open later or close earlier than usual. So if you need cold cuts or a cake for your holiday celebration, it’s a good idea to call ahead and confirm the schedule of the counter you’re hoping to visit.
Delivery and Pickup Hours
If you don’t enjoy shopping for your groceries, you can schedule a delivery or pickup order. However, keep in mind that these services may also deviate from Meijer’s regular store hours. Pickup is often available from 8 am until 9 pm and delivery hours are typically 7 am to 11 pm. Note that these hours may vary depending on which store you visit and change on certain holidays.
Gas Station Hours
Meijer is a one-stop shop for groceries, household goods, prescriptions, and even gas. The pumps are usually open 24/7, making Meijer gas stations great places to fill up on long road trips. However, Meijer Express convenience stores aren’t always open around the clock. In our experience, they usually open at 6 am and close at 10 pm, so plan your snack runs accordingly!
Customers React to Meijer Holiday Schedule and Business Hours
A brief search of the @Meijer handle on Twitter reveals a mix of shopper experiences. In some cases, Meijer shoppers are quite pleased with their local stores. For example, Twitter user NKU Norse Academics tweeted their appreciation for Meijer’s support for their student-athletes.

In contrast, Twitter user NonCompli Ant tweeted his frustration about changes to the Meijer holiday schedule and regular business hours, which were spurred by the pandemic. Before COVID-19, most stores were open twenty-four hours a day except on Christmas. Now the majority of locations are only open from 6 am until 12 am, leaving some shoppers disappointed. The store also closes early on holidays like Thanksgiving, which can be inconvenient.

In sum, if you are a regular Meijer shopper, check with your local store to confirm the Meijer holiday schedule and store hours. Their store locator is here. Phone numbers are available in store search results.
