  • Hi! I'm Bethany and I'm relatively new here, although I've been lurking for a while. I am always looking for ways to improve my family's future. I'm a nurse and my DH is a schoolteacher, and we've got a baby boy on the way due in about 4 weeks. Since I will be going on leave, I have been silently freaking out about money (even though it will be paid leave), and I want to try and find ways to maximize our savings while having enough time to properly raise our son. In the past, my strategy was just to work more, pick up overtime, or pick up second jobs to accomplish whatever saving/spending goals that I had, but since that won't be an option in the future, I am trying to go at it from another perspective, which is cutting spending and saving. I've gotten lots of great ideas from you all here, and I look forward to continuing to gain knowledge from you all!

      • I'm new here...

Hello everyone. I'm always on the lookout for unusual or creative ways to save and earn money. My girlfriend is a coupon queen but I'm not really into that. I really enjoy activities that provide me with a quick return on my time and/or money investments, other than filling out the traditional I-9 for a regular day job (I already have one of those). I hope to find some interesting tips here or share some of the ones I already know of with you all. Cheers!

        • re:introduce yourself

I already posted an intro but I'll do it again.

Hi to new and existing members. This looks like a very rich and educational community. The more I browse, the more I learn about personal finance.

            • A great book to save you money!

              Hey everyone,

I'm Travis Rusko. I'm new to this forum but I am not new to the world of personal finance. I initially titled this post, "a great book to save you money!" The reason I did this was because of a book I recently released. My wife and I are debt free. We have an emergency fund in the bank. We also have a good deal saved for a house down payment and we are also saving money to buy a used car with cash.

              This didn't just happen overnight!

Over the years I have read several websites and listened to many personal finance pros talk about saving money. I am not able to share a link to the book through the forum posts for a while until I leave a few more posts, which is great because rules like that keep this forum from being flooded with spam, but I WOULD love to chat with people and see where I can help with their finances. I am also interested in learning a lot through this forum as well!

              God Bless,
              Travis Rusko

              • New here, terribly irresponsible with money

I'm a 46yo living in Michigan. Because of my irresponsibility, I now find my 18yo and I living in a motel. I'm going to have spending accountability with my therapist, but I thought joining a site like this might help as well.

                  • New to the forums

Hello everyone! I just joined the forums. I am a college student, only 19 years old, and I am looking to learn and grow with my financial responsibility. I recently got sober from a financially crippling drug addiction in which I lost all my savings and maxed out two credit cards (that I lived off of while doing outpatient rehab). Now that I have that part of my life under control, I am trying to learn how to be responsible with my finances. Not many of my friends or people my age seem to want to discuss financial responsibility and my parents are not in my life, which is why I chose to join this forum. I hope this is the right place for me!
Anyways, that's all for now! Hope everyone is having a happy New Year!

                    • Welcome Emily. Congrats on getting clean and also on caring about cleaning up the financial mess. You say your parents aren't involved at all so does that mean you are self-supporting? Are you earning enough to pay for college and living expenses? Do you have money left over for savings and extra debt repayment?

                      • Welcome Emily, you've taken a giant step forward by getting off drugs and it's smart to work towards getting control of finances, sums owing and cash flow. I hope you'll write out some details like income, and outgo of basic expenses like rent, food, utilities and transportation. What is the total sum owed on each Credit Card {CC], Car Loan, Personal loan etc. minimum monthly payment and interest rate? that information is critical to give practical suggestions that might help.
