March 2020 debt payments

March 9th, 2020 at 05:28 PM by ceejay74

A little late reporting this; March is birthday madness in our family and we had three birthdays this past week -- which equalled three nights of family celebrations and three friend parties, so six nights of celebrating over eight nights! Oh, and one was a sleepover, so technically we partied seven out of the past nine days. Super glad the next birthday-related activity isn't for a couple weeks so we can all recover!

All our mortgage payments hit:
US Mortgage: $767 to principal

Lakeside Walk

March 9th, 2020 at 12:29 PM by CB in the City

Yesterday was a warm and windy day. I walked the lakeshore up to the tennis courts, which earned me 7,000 steps. I had to shed my coat! It was so warm and sunny, it was like a holiday. I saw at least three kites, many bikes, and an opera-singing rollerskater.

But today is going to be much cooler.

After my walk I went out with the fam to Steak N Shake for dinner, and got treated. But no leftovers this time!

I made the Spanish rice yesterday -- just a mixture of rice...

do you use a gym?

March 9th, 2020 at 02:51 AM by mumof2

Do people actually use gyms?

We are lucky that we live in the hills and they are beautiful so I use these to get a lot of exercise (when I can) the hills are like a treadmill going to different levels and we see so much wildlife...at home I have a dvd and a pedal bike thing that we use on our arms and legs...I think that covers a lot of exercises that you can get at a gym..and its free..so money saving, get great fresh air..I'm just wondering if people use gyms anymore?

What do you reuse?

March 8th, 2020 at 08:04 PM by DK62565

I really like the show "Home Town" on HGTV. I guess one reason is the hosts seem like nice people. But another reason is they work with a variety of budgets. And both Erin and Ben seem to be the kind to not only use new stuff, but reuse and repurpose other things. I like watching that kind of thing and it seems I am spending a lot of time looking for ways to do just that.

As many of you know, I belong to a knitting group at my church where we loom knit hats and scarves and give...

Applesauce Spice Bread

March 8th, 2020 at 02:30 PM by CB in the City

I had a lot of applesauce after cooking down the apples, so I used some of it to make applesauce spice bread. It's pretty good, and it will help get me through these last few frugal days. There are walnuts in it, so it is pretty hardy in addition to being tasty.

I'm doing another load of laundry today. That will make lights, darks, and colors in three days, and tomorrow I'm going to wash sheets and towels. That's everything! I should be done for a while after that.

I...

i hate not working

March 8th, 2020 at 05:09 AM by mumof2

I haven't been able to work for a few years now due to illness and I am so sick of not being able to work..I hate that there are no jobs that I can do from home...I just wish there was something I could do to feel more productive!!

But I have to look on the bright side we have enough to pay our bills and keep a roof over our heads and feed ourselves so that is much better than some have it!!

Financial highs/lows

March 8th, 2020 at 12:20 AM by GratefulSaver

highs:

So, I kept $50 of the $250 from the unexpected payment I received from a relative. I just set up an electronic contribution for the remaining $200 to my Roth IRA. Another $270 will be transferred on Friday. That leaves me with $120 to pay before April 15 for my 2019 Roth IRA. I can definitely handle that! I can't wait to start 2020. I am proud of myself for making this a priority even when my income is meager compared to prior years. I also discovered that I can continue...

Going With a Partial; Almost Time for Cruise

March 7th, 2020 at 05:16 PM by Petunia 100

On Thursday my new dentist confirmed that a partial would work for me. So, that is the route I am going. I realize it will be an adjustment to get used to wearing it, but lots of people do it and I can do it too. The cost for a partial is about $1600 before insurance pays their portion. Currently, there is a balance of $2232.79 in my dental sinking fund. I will wait until all is done and paid for, then throw the remaining balance at debt.

Yesterday was payday and I was able...

This & That

March 7th, 2020 at 02:32 PM by Monkey Mama

Same old, same old here.

My Dad was diagnosed with cancer. The survival rate of this cancer is 97%. Along those lines, they are doing nothing to treat this cancer (for the moment). It's just such an ugly and scary word. Honestly, 90% of why I am writing this down is so that I remember. I will never otherwise remember in this sea of terrible/worse news.

Other things going on...

I booked a very cute hotel in "Little Denmark" in Southern California. We...

Crowned

March 7th, 2020 at 01:43 PM by CB in the City

The crown is in! It looks and feels great, and the process was so easy and fast. I'm so glad this episode is over.

Otherwise yesterday was a quiet day. I took a walk and did some laundry. I am watching "The Walking Dead," and I am now on Season 3. It was recommended by others, and I have gotten used to the zombies. I'm hooked on the story.

Today is a gym day; I'll be leaving soon.

It is a temptation to buy some bread and butter, but since I have only four days to...

With the amount of overtime DH is getting, I think we will have this paid off in April, instead of May or June like we had figured at the beginning of the year. He got 15 this week which will be on the next paycheck and will get at least 10 this coming week, maybe 15 again, which will also be on the next paycheck.

I really hope the overtime continues for a while after that, too, because then...

Be Fearful When Others Are Greedy...

March 6th, 2020 at 03:52 PM by Monkey Mama

& Be Greedy when others are fearful.

That pretty much sums it up right now.

**15-year mortgage at 2.25%

**London non-stop flights $350 (round trip) from San Francisco

I'll run the mortgage #s this weekend, but seems a no-brainer at this point. Even with our only 5-ish years timeline in our current home. Heck, if we were further along on the college process I'd maybe even cash out some. (I am not participating in scammy student loans. Borrowing close to 2% for...

Sick Days

March 6th, 2020 at 01:59 PM by terri77

I am home sick, yesterday & today. Doctor says it’s allergies, but I feel whipped. Cough, chilly, achy, low energy. And now a runny nose I guess from the cough medicine breaking up the congestion. He gave me a steroid shot, prescribed cough medicine, and gave me a chest x-ray because I didn’t like the way my breathing sounded. After he examined me he sent me out to the waiting area with a mask. That got me a lot of wary looks. 😷

Oops!

March 6th, 2020 at 01:34 PM by CB in the City

My Ancestry.com subscription hit my Discover card yesterday. I knew it was coming in March, but I guess I assumed it wouldn't hit within this credit card cycle. So my spending balance is cut down to $115. Still no problem; I won't need to spend nearly that much during the next five days. Unless I get another surprise!

I had some aging apples in the fridge, so I made applesauce yesterday. I'm going to have some for breakfast this morning, along with biscuits from the freezer....

Long Catch Up Post--Health, Fridge, Finances

March 6th, 2020 at 04:06 AM by Lucky Robin

I haven't been posting much at all. February was an atrocious month for my health. I had bronchitis, then influenza a, then a 3 day stomach bug (vomiting the whole time), then a sinus infection. It never stopped, just went from one thing into the next, all the while I didn't have Enbrel for 5 weeks. Getting it okayed by the new insurance was an absolute nightmare. And not because they ever planned to deny it, but because everyone involved but me kept dropping the ball.
