My English Castle

And that's that.

March 14th, 2020 at 05:48 AM by My English Castle

All of our university has closed down for two weeks when we all switch to online for a while--and maybe until the end of the semester. DD is out of school for a month with her HS switching to online.

I had a meeting today with our instructors trying to get everyone ready. It's a strange strange time.

And just a note to all of you out there--please don't yell at the store clerks because they're out of TP. Three nasty folks yelled at my kid tonight for that very reason....

The Rising Tide

March 14th, 2020 at 04:53 AM by Lucky Robin

The governor finally decided to close all of the schools in Washington state. I don't think our district would have if it hadn't been taken out of their hands. I am glad it was done. If states who didn't even have any deaths were closing them, why my state, with the highest death toll in the country, took so long is beyond me.

We now have 2 cases in my county and 568 cases in the state. There have been 37 deaths. There has been a homeless man who left quarantine before...

Updates

March 14th, 2020 at 02:03 AM by GratefulSaver

Closing on our FL house is supposed to be on the 24th of this month. I was supposed to travel to pack our things but decided against it. My brother will be packing for me and putting everything in storage for at least a month or until he feels okay to travel from NJ to FL. He volunteered to U-haul our stuff for us and then fly back home. He's diabetic and neither one of us feels comfortable with him traveling right now.

We are under contract for about $5K above what we paid...

Hubby had his appointment yeaterday he ned to have some gold ball things fitted through day surgery (hopefully they won't wait to long) and then he can start his radiotherapy...he should have around 40 treatments...they can't believe it has taken so long to get to this point and are hoping we don't have to wait to much longer to get this procedure done but hospitals are stressed to the max right now so who knows...on the upside we only had to pay $750 for the whole treatment but...

The Corona Dodge

March 13th, 2020 at 09:05 PM by Life Balance

I’ve just returned from another business trip. It was an experience – especially the trip home. I loaded up on high doses of Vitamins C & D before traveling and used Airborne daily while I was away. Just in case. On the planes, many people were wearing masks and all of us used sanitizer repeatedly. Very few tray tables were used on the planes. On the trips home one flight was 2/3 full and the other about ½ full. I’m happy to say that I didn’t see anyone that appeared sick....

What a Mess!

March 13th, 2020 at 01:00 PM by CB in the City

I had to start admitting to myself yesterday that I was getting sick. I have a mild fever, a cough, wooziness and constriction in my chest. I took the night to make sure and then this morning I resigned from the election. I am the second person on the team to cancel and one other is on the fence; yet another has never responded to any message or voicemail. I have no idea what is going to happen with the election, but I do know that I need to self-isolate. I canceled my weekend...

I'll Probably Continue to Write About this a Lot

March 13th, 2020 at 03:09 AM by Lucky Robin

My doctor is worried. He says one confirmed case of Covid-19 means 100's of unconfirmed cases and is frustrated by the lack of tests available. They are saying that if you have a cough or respiratory symptoms you need to triage in the parking lot by calling from your phone. They will send a nurse in proper gear out to assess you.

They prefer you go to the after hours clinic if you suspect it, though, so less people will be put at risk. Blood tests are being done with gloves,...

Vacation Planning

March 12th, 2020 at 06:11 PM by klarose

Well despite all the Coronavirus scares my vacation planning has continued as normal. I will be going to Glacier and Yellowstone this fall.

I have my three different lodging places booked and my airplane tickets. The only thing left to reserve is the rental car.

I am sharing lodging and the car with family. So I have been able to keep prices fairly low.

So far our costs for us three are:

Lodging - $946
Plane Tickets - $670

Rental car is estimated at $460. Then...

Shopping

March 12th, 2020 at 01:29 PM by CB in the City

Did I say shopping would be so much fun? I forgot -- I hate shopping! But it is a relief to have some needed stuff at home now.

I spent $51 at Aldi, $37 at PetSmart, and $19 at the vet for specialty food. I did not see empty shelves or any evidence of panic. But I wasn't looking for coveted items like sanitizer or tp.

I also spent $5 for cookies for a fundraiser.

Today I'm planning to get an oil change, with free car wash, and I will probably stop at a Jewel store...

Smallsteps

my favorite past time

March 12th, 2020 at 01:10 PM by Smallsteps

As with any hobby there are ups and downs and since I really like to people watch this hysteria has upped the drama.
The absolute meltdown of a person since Starbucks is not refilling reusable cups at this time who cares about pandemics if you can save a paper cup . ...
The person who thinks the young lady at the store can be convinced to "find" some hand sanitizer they are somehow holding in the backroom for really "special people.
The few ladies who brought their...

Life is Getting Complicated

March 12th, 2020 at 05:04 AM by Lucky Robin

Well, today the hospital, which is part of the network of all of our specialty doctors, sent out warning emails and so did our primary doctor's network. They are working to identify those who may have been exposed to the woman at the hospital who has Covid-19. No saying yet if my daughter and husband were, but they were there during that time period. They were in the ER and I don't know if this woman was, but I'm not sure where else she would be unless she came in via a different...

It's Wednesday!

March 11th, 2020 at 01:06 PM by CB in the City

Today I'm going to get some groceries at Aldi and some supplies from PetSmart. I've made it through the money crunch; now I need to restore my provisions. Hope I don't find empty shelves.

Last night I took the boys to Steak N Shake, and spent $24 out of cash. Variables are at 26%.

I have been hearing from other members of the election team, and we have been making plans for setup, pre-setup, etc. Only one member has not checked in; I hope she shows up on election day....

Electric meter update

March 11th, 2020 at 01:51 AM by Steve

We finally got an answer from the utility company today. They said that the meter was 99.7% accurate (I think that was the number). So apparently there's no refund coming our way and we've somehow managed to increase electricity usage 40-60% in the past year without changing anything we do or use in our home.

At least there was no cost to getting our meter replaced. I'm really curious to see how the bills are going forward. If the continue to show higher usage, I guess that...

Observations and Gentle Encouragement to Be Prepared in the Face of Covid-19

March 11th, 2020 at 01:47 AM by Lucky Robin

Being in the state with the highest death rate to Covid-19 has been interesting and to be truthful, worrisome. We had a diagnosis in my county today. It was someone who had gone to the hospital. My daughter went to the hospital within that period of time, with my husband. Closer every day.

There's a lot of little things that have been going on since people started dying, but those things are now becoming bigger and I think we might be looking at a hard quarantine soon in...

Bagel Day -- Not

March 10th, 2020 at 03:18 PM by CB in the City

Just came home from the gym -- it was supposed to be Bagel Day, but they did not order the bagels. Supposedly because they are in the process of remodeling, but I think they just didn't want to do it. I wonder if there will be some pushback. The place is run by a bunch of kids who are probably short on judgment.

Anyway, I did my workout and then came home and made pancakes, using up the last of the applesauce in the batter. Tomorrow I can shop again. I will try to control...

March 2020 debt payments

March 9th, 2020 at 05:28 PM by ceejay74

A little late reporting this; March is birthday madness in our family and we had three birthdays this past week -- which equalled three nights of family celebrations and three friend parties, so six nights of celebrating over eight nights! Oh, and one was a sleepover, so technically we partied seven out of the past nine days. Super glad the next birthday-related activity isn't for a couple weeks so we can all recover!

All our mortgage payments hit:
US Mortgage: $767 to principal
