Summer is classically a time when people head out on vacation, giving them a chance to relax, recharge, and have some fun. But selecting a vacation destination is often trickier than it seems. There is such a wide array of options that narrowing down the choices can be challenging. Fortunately, there are some destinations that are widely considered some of the best. Here’s a look at some unforgettable vacations to go on this summer.

Athens, Greece

If you’re open to international travel this summer, Athens, Greece, is a top choice. The area is home to a wide array of pristine beaches, creating ample opportunities for fun in the water or relaxing in the sun. Plus, Athens is brimming with historical sites that are worthy of any bucket list. It’s also easy to find accommodations at a wide array of price points, ranging from budget-friendly to luxurious.

Banff National Park, Canada

For an international trip that doesn’t require crossing an ocean, heading to Banff National Park in Canada is a worthwhile option. The landscape is genuinely breathtaking, and there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation, like hiking and canoeing. You can even find ATV tours if you prefer a higher-speed adventure, and there are golf courses nearby for those who prefer a leisurely day on the links.

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

For a wildlife experience unlike any other, take a trip to the Galapagos Islands this summer. While most people focus on the native Galapagos Giant Tortoises, there are also chances to see a variety of birds, get close to sea lions, and experience many other types of fauna. Plus, the landscape is genuinely pristine, and there are excellent opportunities for snorkeling and scuba diving.

Grand Canyon, Arizona

When it comes to must-see natural landscapes, it’s hard to beat the Grand Canyon. The views from the top are undeniably stellar, and there are plenty of options for hiking, horseback riding, and kayaking. Camping is also incredibly popular in this area, allowing you to take in the night skies and enjoy some star gazing. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also walk the Skywalk glass bridge, allowing you to look over the rim and take in the canyon floor some 4,000 feet below.

Hudson Valley, New York

Summer is an excellent time to explore everything that Hudson Valley, New York, has to offer. The region is dotted with quaint towns and fascinating cities, as well as provides the charm you typically associate with country life. You can explore wineries and cideries, stroll through antique shops, and spend time in nature, all in one trip.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

For anyone looking for an outdoor adventure, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is an excellent destination. It’s close to two major national parks – Yellowstone and Grand Teton – creating ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. Whether you enjoy hiking, whitewater rafting, kayaking, fishing, or horseback riding, there are opportunities available. Plus, it’s popular for camping and fishing.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas, Nevada, is a classic choice for adults looking for some fun. There are so many intriguing sites along The Strip and plenty of entertainment options, including to the point where you can have fun without having to gamble. Plus, summer is the low season in Las Vegas, so it’s often the cheapest time of year to visit. Just be mindful of the temperatures, as it can get incredibly hot between June and August.

Ojai, California

If you’re more interested in a spa vacation, a trip to Ojai, California, could be right up your alley. The city is known for its new-age vibe, and many resorts offer a wide array of wellness-related services. Plus, the region is gorgeous, and there are plenty of opportunities for guided nature hikes. You can also explore local farmer’s markets, spend time at a nearby golf course, and enjoy some trail riding during your stay.

São Tomé and Príncipe, Africa

São Tomé and Príncipe, which are located in Central Africa, are intriguing options if you prefer unconventional destinations. They feature a mix of African and Portuguese cultures, with Portuguese actually being the official language. The two islands offer plenty when it comes to activities, ranging from mountain or rainforest hikes to surfing and swimming at the beaches. Plus, there’s fantastic food and nightlife, effectively covering every possible base.

Savannah, Georgia

When it comes to southern charm, it’s hard to beat Savannah, Georgia. During the day, simply strolling through the town square or heading to historical sites is enough to keep you engaged. At night, there are slews of opportunities for fine dining, as well as fun jazz clubs for music enthusiasts. You’ll also find plenty of local spas for some relaxation, or you can head to the beach for some fun in the sun.
