Is the Post Office Closed on MLK Day 2022?

January 8, 2022 by Shay Huntley

The best part of my day is when I get to check the mail. I usually get to check it online on my daily digest, so I know what to expect when I get home. There are generally several packages and pieces of important mail coming through. I can hardly wait in anticipation when I get home to open them. With a few holidays coming up, I need to know when the mail will and will not run. The next holiday is in a few weeks, but is the Post Office closed on MLK Day 2022?

Is The Post Office closed on MLK day?

There are about 11 federal holidays each year. Typically, all federal employees are off on these days. The post office is no exclusion. They are currently closed on MLK day 2022. If you are sending out mail that you want to be delivered on or by that day, you must mail the parcel out 3-5 days beforehand. To find more information on operation hours for your post office, you can check here.

What Holidays is the Post Office Open For?

Aside from the 11 federal holidays, the post office is typically open. They are also open on both New Years’ Eve and Christmas Eve. On those two holidays, you will need to check with your local office to see wheater they have extended or reduced hours during those times.

How Can You Check You Mail Early?

Aside from their operation hours, you should check out other perks of using the post office. I mentioned earlier I like to check out my mail before it comes. You can to by signing up for the daily digest through “Informed Delivery.” Once you sign up, the post office will send scanned images of your mail for that day. At the bottom of the email, you will find additional information about packages you may receive as well. The service also allows you to track packages, reschedule deliveries, and leave delivery instructions.

I love checking on opening mail, how about you? Drop some more perks of using the Post Office and information about operation hours in the comment section below.
