Is Target Open on Labor day 2021?

August 26, 2021 by Tamila McDonald

Is Target Open on Labor Day

Monday, Sept. 6, is Labor Day in 2021. For many people, Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer, making it the perfect time for a final barbecue or outdoor gathering before the weather turns colder and school gets into full swing. Labor Day is also an extra day off for many, making it a perfect time for some shopping. If you’re wondering, “Is Target open on Labor Day 2021?” here’s what you need to know.

Is Target Open on Labor Day 2021?

Yes, Target is open on Labor Day. The retailer understands that many people have the day off and that they might use the time to handle back-to-school shopping, pick up groceries, or score great deals during sales. Alternatively, you can visit their website and purchase something there on Labor Day.

Target Labor Day Weekend Schedule

Since Target doesn’t close for Labor Day, you won’t have to worry about heading the store before the holiday to get what you need for a celebration. All stores will be operating using their typical schedule for that day of the week across the entire Labor Day weekend.

For most Target stores, a typical schedule for the holiday weekend is:

  • Friday, Sept. 3 – 7:00 am or 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, 9:00 pm, or 10:00 pm
  • Saturday, Sept. 4 – 7:00 am or 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, 9:00 pm, or 10:00 pm
  • Sunday, Sept. 5 – 7:00 am or 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, 9:00 pm, or 10:00 pm
  • Monday, Sept. 6, Labor Day – 7:00 am or 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, 9:00 pm, or 10:00 pm

At many Target stores, the first operating hour of each day is currently reserved for vulnerable guests. After that, anyone is welcome to shop.

Does Target Have a Labor Day Sale?

Technically, Target has a sale every week of the year. However, the Labor Day sale is a great one for families looking to save on specific items.

Many back-to-school and back-to-college products are on deeper discount during this sale. Along with pencils, notebooks, and similar school necessities, you might find price reductions on dorm furniture, mini-fridges, and even computers.

Camping gear usually gets cheaper this time of year, mainly because that season is drawing to a close. The same goes for outdoor furniture, grilling items, some sporting goods, and other outdoor-related products.

You’ll also find other discounts throughout the store. For example, grill-worthy foods from leading companies may have some deals, as well as items that are popular for school lunches.

Target Holiday Schedule

Like most major retailers, Target is open far more often than it isn’t. Typically, Target only closes completely twice during the year.

Here is a look at the Target holiday schedule for 2021:

  • Easter – Sunday, April 4, 2021
  • Christmas – Saturday, Dec. 25, 2021

In 2020, Target did close on Thanksgiving Day, as well. That was actually a pretty big break from the norm, as the retailer usually opened on the holiday.

At this point, it isn’t entirely clear whether Target will choose to close on Thanksgiving 2021 as well. However, it is a real possibility, so keep that in mind if you may need to shop on that Thursday.

In some cases, Target stores may also close a bit early on specific. For example, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are popular days for reduced hours, ensuring employees can get home to celebrate. However, they aren’t universal.

Usually, it’s best to check with local stores before every holiday or holiday eve. That way, you can make sure that your preferred location is open before you make the trip.

Do Other Stores Close on Labor Day?

The vast majority of retailers are open on Labor Day. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t exceptions.

One of the biggest exceptions is Costco. On Labor Day, all Costco warehouse locations close, giving their employees the day off. The Costco Business Centers shut down for the holiday as well, so keep that in mind if you plan to use those services near the holiday.

The Post Office isn’t open for the holiday. FedEx and UPS stores may not be available, either. The same goes for in-person services at most banks and credit unions.

Other stores may also close their doors for the holiday. If you plan on shopping on Labor Day, always check with the retailer before you do to make sure you’ll be able to finish your errands.

Do you plan on heading to Target this Labor Day? Are you hoping to take advantage of sales at Target or other retailers during the holiday? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
