5 Great Summer Break Ideas for Mid-July

July 1, 2021 by Tamila McDonald

summer break mid-july

Many people view mid-July as the height of summer. As a result, they want to seize opportunities to have a bit of fun in the sun. Luckily, there are plenty of great places for a mid-July summer break. If you’re looking for ideas on where to go and what to do, here are some options you may want to check out.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

If you love the outdoors, Santa Fe might be your perfect destination. The state is overflowing with opportunities for adventures outside. Whether you like hiking, fishing, biking, or boating, you’ll get your chance here.

Plus, the area has a rich and intriguing history. There are museums and attractions that can give you new insights into this part of the country, or you can simply explore on your own.

As a bonus, Santa Fe is more affordable than many other classic vacation locations. If you’re budget-conscious, this is a city worth keeping on your list.

New York City, New York

New York City is brimming with attractions, great restaurants, and much more. Plus, the city has lifted many of its COVID-19-related restrictions, making it easier to have fun during your stay.

Whether you enjoy museums, zoos, shopping, or dining, there is something in New York City for you. Just be aware that hotels can be a bit pricy, so make sure you do your research to find the best deals.

Portland, Oregon

While the Pacific Northwest has a reputation for rain, the weather is usually quite nice in July. The temperatures rise, and the sky is often clear, making it a great time to explore the city of Portland.

Portland has a personality all its own. There is an inherent quirkiness that locals embrace, making it an excellent option for anyone looking for a fun-loving vibe. Plus, it has fantastic food, art, and brewing scenes, as well as plenty of museums and other attractions, ensuring that there is something for everyone.

Orange County, California

The California coast is always a favorite summer destination. Ocean breezes and warm temperatures make Orange County a great option. Plus, while it isn’t necessarily a low-cost area, it’s typically less expensive than heading to Los Angeles.

As a bonus, the Orange County Fair arrives in mid-July and runs through mid-August, giving you something fun to explore during your stay. Just make sure to buy your tickets in advance if you want to guarantee admission.

Cape Cod, Massachusetts

There is a reason Cape Cod is a favorite summer vacation destination. The weather is amazing, making time spent on the beach more enjoyable. Plus, if you’re a fan of seafood, you’ll find delectable options at every turn.

The area also has a ton of historic charm. You can arrange to stay in one of the beautiful inns to experience it first hand, or simply take a stroll through the lovely downtowns to explore it during your trip.

Ketchikan, Alaska

In 2021, you have a chance to experience parts of Alaska in ways that aren’t usually possible. Largely, cruise ships won’t be heading through the Ketchikan area this year, creating unique opportunities for visitors who want to explore the Inside Passage while it isn’t overrun.

Plus, since people have mainly been indoors recently, the wildlife populations have flourished. Fishing is also in its prime, thanks to less activity during 2020.
