  • if I won the lottery

My friends and I had this fun conversation with5 multiple friends in different groups. I was always laughing over people's answers. My first and biggest buy? I surprise people I think. A personal chef. I do love traveling, but I would LOVE to have someone deliver perfectly balanced meals for lunch and dinner daily for me and the family. Also if they shopped that would be fantastic.

I would eat out and travel but to not worry about a meal? To not get up and make the kids lunches? True luxury.

Personally making more we'd be able to afford to travel more and nicer. But I need lottery money (like mega riches) to really buy a personal chef.

I have considered those delivered meals but I"m not sure what income would make it comfortable to afford that. The meal delivery prep services you still have to cook so to me it's not exactly huge saver. Yes you don't have to shop but my kids don't love all those meals.

First major purchase for me would probably be a vacation home somewhere on a lake or the ocean.

First thing we’d probably buy would be a house in Florida. We’ve wanted one for years. If money were no object, we’d finally pull the trigger.

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

There'd be a few houses purchased. Florida and a place in the Adirondacks or Finger Lakes.

Agreed! Multiple houses, with a line on some basic caretakers. I think I'd probably end up with a vacation condo in the CO Rockies, winter home in Flagstaff, and a summer/shoulder home in proximity to Anchorage, AK. A housekeeper at whichever home we're at is a given. I like that idea of a personal chef, though as much as I love to cook, that couldn't be an every day thing. I could also see myself looking to cycle through with a variety of coaches for various personal development things (fitness, various skills/practices, languages, etc.). Travel & toys come later, and continue on indefinitely. Could I spend $100M+ dollars? meh ... I'd invest alot of it, and live high on the million or three that it threw off every year. Fun to imagine, but won't ever happen (not being a lotto player on principle).

Since we're fantasizing, I'd buy most of the nearby houses on my road, bulldoze them and let the ground go back to nature.
Would also try to buy the adjoining farms and develop my own personal "Yellowstone".

We'd buy our 2nd place in Palm Springs but still keep a presence near family and to escape hot summers. We'd cross off more of our RV travel bucket list. I'd take up a few personal development things as well, as my husband would too.

I've maintained I don't want people around, with the one exception being a cook, but if we can do a meal service instead I'd rather do that. Our dog would be included in all of our plans and travels. Honestly, lottery life looks a lot like "now" minus the obligation of work. But with a lot more intentional pursuit of interests in a newfound gift of time. And depending on the sum, creating a charity, and being actively part of it.
              History will judge the complicit.

If I would win 100 million dollars then we would buy our dream home buy my kids and mom their dream home then buy a empty hotel with lots of rooms and donate it to a charity that we support for the homeless with a $10-20 million donation so they can do any upgrades/buy food/pay utilities etc...then donate5 million to another charity that foster kids backpacks/teen backpacks & home essential packs for DV survivors starting over then will see about the rest...I think the good thing is in australia we don't pay taxes when we will lotto...

My first big expense would be to move into a suite at a fancy hotel. (Hopefully - I had my reading glasses on when I was checking the winning numbers and didn't misread a number! )
I would like to buy my Mom a house that she would suit her needs. Do you think closing on a house would happen a lot faster with cash? I would love to cover the cost for going to college for any relative that wanted to attend.

After that, I don't know. I think people might have certain expectations from lottery winners. Here is an example: You go out to eat and you leave a tip. Is it 20%, 100% or 1000% of the bill? If you only leave 20%- are you an SOB? (What made me think of this is an article I read about celebrity tipping. ) Are you supposed to be like Oprah: you get a car, you get a car, you get a car...

I think a person would have to go to Lottery Winners School to figure out some of these things.

“If I won the lottery, I wouldn’t tell anyone…but there would be signs.”

We’d move back SoCal and buy beach front property and we’d pay off our parents’ / grandparents’ mortgage.

I think after that, we’d want to live a fairly normal life. We’d enjoy the financial independence and being anonymously generous to others.

I want to come up with something exciting but honestly, I don't think my immediate plans would change. I have 3 years til DD graduates and since her dad and I are no longer together, moving isn't in the cards for me just yet. After she graduates, my plan is to sell the house and nomad around the world for a while... I guess it would just give us more freedom in where we could go and what we could spend? Plus maybe some more elaborate vacations over the next 3 years, but honestly we already travel to our hearts content. I don't even think hubby or I would quit our jobs because we'd be bored out of our minds sitting around Iowa.

This would definitely be us. Not necessarily more travel but nicer travel. Instead of the cheaper smaller hotel room on the edge of town, we'd get the suite at the place right in the heart of town. Instead of the standard cabin on a cruise, go for the suite. Fly first class. Eat at more nicer restaurants. Stuff like that. The total cost of that stuff would be minimal relative to a large lottery jackpot but that's the sort of thing I could see us doing if money was no object.

Oh i would definitely fly only first class and nicer suites, etc. In a way I already am. I am using a lot of miles to fly better and looking at the price comparison between economy and first or premium at least.
