What lead you to SA? I know when I arrived I had become very interested in saving more money and our budget was becoming very tight and I wanted to see how to stretch it.

I was only one year into my first house (no other debts), and just wanted to be better with managing money and stumbled upon this forum and Bogleheads. Originally I thought I was a pretty good saver...until I really followed these threads. Since saving and budgeting my was my primary focus, I leaned more towards this site.

I honestly don't recall how I found the site (it's been almost 15 years). I was already a personal finance junkie into all of this stuff. I know a number of users from DISBoards.com were also active here so I may have learned about it from one of them. I used to be very active on their Budget Board so it could have come up in discussion there.

We were already pretty well established when I joined in 2006. I had been at my job at the time for 6 years. Our daughter was almost 11. I don't recall if my wife was working then or not. Student loans had been paid off the previous year so we were probably at a point where we were starting to invest more.

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
      * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

I don't remember exactly what led me here back in ~2007, but it was likely a random Google search about emergency fund or retirement savings (the extent of my financial thoughts at the time). Finding the site, I slowly started coming back more & more, eventually joined & started participating.

I joined in 2006, but I don't remember the exact reason why I searched the internet for financial advice or material

I think just like minded people...who would discuss way and means to get out of debt etc...although I don't understand all that the Americans discuss as we don't have them here

I joined in 2007. I was about 5 years from retiring and looking for retirement topics. I stayed because I like the community and there are always lots of interesting topics.

I was deeply concerned about our financial trajectory as a couple. We had an underwater mortgage and some sizable vehicle debt. Wanted to get a better grip on ways to succeed, make sure we were saving enough for retirement, and that we could right the situation with our house and debts. 10+ years later it feels like we're doing the right things.
                History will judge the complicit.

I used to read a blog called Graceful Retirement. She had a blogroll and there was a Saving Advice blog listed. (I think it was ND Chick's).

Joined in 2008. Don't recall how I found this specific board - perhaps looking for like-minded people in the midst of the great recession. I've always had a strong interest in personal finance and the breadth of discussion and information here has been terrific.
