  • Hard to believe that a local store wouldn't take back an unopened bag with receipts that had been bought the day before.

I'm not surprised in today's world. Way too easy for someone to do something to contaminate that food before returning it and still have the bag look like it had never been opened. I wouldn't be surprised if the store had to trash that bag after they took it back rather than put it out for sale again.

      • So hard to live where you can no longer trust people to be decent and caring and not trying to pull a fast one. Very sad.

Agreed. Unfortunately, at least since the Tylenol cyanide case in 1982, product tampering has been a real concern.

Think about a bag of dog food. How tough would it be for someone to use a syringe to put a pin hole in the bag and squirt something in? I don't have any pets but if I did, I certainly wouldn't want to bring home a bag of food that had been returned by someone else.

            • Found M&Ms (11 oz bag) on sale at CVS. I had a $5 bonus buck and with the purchase of 4 bags, got another $4 bonus buck. I ended up with 4 bags for 75 cents each. On my way out of the store, I saw that the smallest individual bag (not King size bags) were 'on sale' for 88 cents.

                • My wife went to Fred Meyer and got 5 12 oz bags of coffee. She paid $16.65 for all 5.

The coffee was on sale, then she used two coupons to drive the price down. The coffee was normally $5.79 for each bag, so that's a rough discount of 50 percent.

                  Link to coupon:

We will be able to drink coffee for a two months on this buy alone. The same price would get you only 4 cups of coffee at starbucks. BIG BIG WIN.

                  • Last night I hit enough Bing reward point to turn in and get another $5 to PP which I then sent to my Acorns account. I now have $10 plus change in that account The second $5 reward came faster as I only needed less than 2000 points to get to it, but if I have time I can get a nice bunch of points daily.

I'm also investigating other on line ways to earn money or like one place I noticed had CVS cards which I can always use. There is a real limit to how many different programs you can work at a time, so I want to be sure I am working toward things that will matter. Like many of those places have sweepstakes, that don't interest me. I want money or the equivilant.

                          It was $1 per try.

                          • A while back we moved so that I could walk to work. What we're finding is that we walk to almost everything. So here's the win.

For the month of February we only spent $20 on auto fuel.
That's a savings of $180 from where we lived before!

When my son got full time at his job, he knew he would have to move, so he spent time saving up a down payment and ended up with a much nicer apartment (the bottom floor of a converted house) and he was doing this to lower his gas bill, As it turns out he can walk to work again, like he did at his last FT job here in town. The year or two when he couldn't walk to work, my previously thin kid was starting to get a bit heavy so now is trimming down again. So two wins on that score. I know I never started getting heavy until I got my driver's license and drove to work instead of walking there and around that time I started doing stress eating.

                              • My husband got a 4.5% raise. We were not expecting anything this time. And his bonus will be larger than we expected. I just raised the 401k contribution to 12% starting this next pay period. Now I might raise it again. I'm waiting to see what the dog's bills and the orthodontia will cost before I decide. We are using the bonus to pay his parents for those coins I didn't know about, so that will be nice not to have to think about.
