I know two traveling nurses who were told to get some sort of ID card so they can travel without restrictions. I guess there has been whispers of making the entire nation stay home, sort of like they did in Italy. Probably just rumorville but they're ready for it just in case.

It's Jaws all over again with the local authorities not wanting to shut things down due to the economic impact, ignoring the greater risk of leaving things open and spreading the virus which ultimately will result in a much longer shut down and far greater impact.

But, our system of government isn't really designed to make that happen in an instant.
This event is unprecedented, and the systems in place were never designed to handle it.
Power has always been left to the states.
The federal government can't simply turn off the country like it's someone flipping a light switch.

At this point, it doesn't matter as the damage is done. Only 11 states have shut down so 39 are still out and about spreading disease everywhere they go.Steve

My April 22-24 CME program was postponed and will now be held in September.
An awards and fundraising banquet we were scheduled to attend on April 25 is going to be cancelled and rescheduled.
We're still waiting to hear if a June convention that DW and DD are going to in Chicago will be cancelled. We haven't bought airfare yet. Normally I probably would have by now but I'm waiting at this point. The same for my CME in St. Louis in July. Cancelling hotels is easy. Dealing with cancelling air travel is not.Steve

Thats exactly right - the constitution is designed to produce slow deliberative legislation, its not designed for fast action. That said, I don't know what the folks in DC are thinking by slowing down the Coronavirus stimulus funding. People need money NOW, not halfway through April.

March 22 thru March 25 was supposed to be my Las Vegas road trip. Today I would have been sitting at a slot machine with a Heineken light in one hand and pushing the buttons with the other hand. Dining at the buffets having an omelette with bacon, ham, oatmeal, coffee, etc. My mind is still warped that all of Las Vegas is closed but it has to be done to contain this pandemic.

Honestly guys, Monday is feeling a little like business as usual. Politicians not agreeing with each other, people on Facebook irrationally supporting one side and everyone asking about how make money from the crisis.james.c.hendrickson@gmail.com

Unfortunately for us, we are 90% certain we have to travel to Idaho to the college for my daughter's items. The school said to work with the sorority, and the sorority says to get the stuff out ASAP and to work with the housemother since we are a 20 hr drive away. This is totally ridiculous! She is transitioning from sorority to apartment on campus so she is considered to be in limbo. We would prefer to travel in about 4 weeks or so since she has enough books, etc. for that time frame. We can be socially distant from others in the vehicle, and will have to be careful at gas stations and rest stops. But we are equipped with gloves and disinfecting wipes and soap and sanitizer. We plan to bring own food and drink as well. Sleeping bags, too. The sorority should only have the housemother at the building (only occupant in the last 10 days).
Does anyone think that this can get so bad in the next week or so that state borders would be closed? We definitely do not want to be stuck out of state. Do you think we are crazy?

How much stuff does your daughter have to move? Given the health risks, time for travel/move, and stress, would it make more sense to just replace the majority of items at a later date? More extreme and expensive, but just an idea. Or does she have friends over there that could grab her bare essentials?"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

ETA: You would still need to be able to return home, hence the ID checking. If you work out of state, for example.Last edited by disneysteve; 03-23-2020, 10:18 AM.Steve
