We now have a case less than 15 minutes from where I live. The rumor was she had been to the doctor a couple of times over a weeks period before they finally realized she was infected. Maybe washing your hands after going to the gas pump isn't such a bad idea after all.

Most people will likely have mild cases and many won't even seek medical care. Just as with the regular flu, the actual incidence is unknown because of that. The problem is the higher death rate, particularly in the elderly. The current expectation is that the death rate will be around 1% vs. flu which is around 0.1%.Steve

But, we are having some trouble with inventory shortages at work due to the factories being shut down in China.

Comicon in Seattle was cancelled, that's kind of a big-to-do. I'm told nightlife is pretty much dead right now and rush hour has pretty much vanished with so many of the major employer's employees working remotely.History will judge the complicit.

A school my husband once taught at has closed because two people who attended a school social function over the weekend live with a young woman who just returned from Milan and has been diagnosed Covid-19 positive. People around here are livid that they made the choice to attend, knowing that their daughter/sister was being tested, came from a quarantined area, and had symptoms. Indeed, they had themselves been "told" (don't know if it had legal force) to self-quarantine."There is some ontological doubt as to whether it may even be possible in principle to nail down these things in the universe we're given to study." --text msg from my kid

Here in NE we had our first confirmed case over the weekend. It's now up to 3. 2 of the 3 had been in London recently. The 36 yo woman (1st case) went to three different medical facilities a total of five times, played in a special olympics tournament with people from all over the state, AND attended a vfw dinner. Her father (who'd traveled with her) is the second case.
40 people who were at the game are self-quarantined in my town now.
I work at a city agency dealing mostly with seniors. I'm wondering how long til they close the senior centers - local nursing homes are already on lockdown to visitors.
I'm also worried about my trip to Ireland in May ...

Hey, long time..
There are three confirmed coronavirus cases a few miles from me in Coralville Iowa. I'll continue to ride the bus to work and eat my omelet in the hospital cafeteria though.. Probably why I never get sick, along with never getting the flue vaccine.. The military vaccinated me enough, thank you.
