  • You'd have to know my husband to really appreciate this, but I actually got him to throw out ONE stained old shirt and felt like doing a happy dance!

For our entire married life, he has had almost twice as many clothes as me.

Every little bit helps. You can only lead by example.

I can appreciate the attachment to old shirts but a few months ago when we we read Marie Kondo's book, I finally attacked my t-shirts and got rid of 25 of them. That was a huge accomplishment for me.

Hopefully he'll catch the decluttering bug from you.

Even though I've been selling on ebay since 1997 - an eternity in Internet time - it never ceases to amaze me.

I listed one of these catalogs at 2:25pm. It was bought and paid for at 3:41pm.
        Gotta love that.
I'm listing 6 more right now.

        • Good for you with those magazine sales. I've sold many things on line for years now but the one that surprised me the most was I accidently bought an old hairdressing magazine from the 50's or 60's with a bunch of craft magazines for a dime. Rather than toss it, I listed it on ebay and it sold for , get this, $40!

Nice! I once sold the Original Annie Soundtrack CD for $20 and was thrilled. Recently sold a Disney map from an old park for $10.

            • I dropped two boxes and two bags of donations at Goodwill today. I was forced to drop them off as I had already put them in my van, but also needed to get groceries!

I also worked in the garage for a little bit today. We have footlocker we want to get rid of and it was holding items I was pretty sure I could sell. After checking with my husband, who did take a few items back to keep, I have about six things to sell on eBay. The footlocker is mostly empty and ready to be filled with more donations as we find them.

              • Sold another of the catalogs on ebay this morning and sold one of DD's textbooks on half.com.

                • I sold one item on eBay last week. Sales seem to be slow right now.

I am continuing the decluttering. We are pretty minimized, but there are still things we don't use and don't need around here. I'm making a goal to let go of 465 things in September. It's actually a challenge to let go of 1 item for the first day, two items the second all the way to 30 items on the last day. The total is 465.

As of last night I had 75 items! Only 390 to go.

What an interesting way to go about it! Lately I try if I pick something up that I know I won't use and is in the way, I try to put it in the garbage, thrift store pile, or the pile to list on line. Somethings I am a bit of a pack rat though. I got something at the thrift store last week for a quarter because it looked like something I might be able to use but wasn't sure without taking it out of it's packaging. Once I did at home, it is on it's way back to the thrift store since I already had something that would do the same job only better!

                      • Cleaning out the house for a possible move. I started using the Facebook garage sale pages. I have one dresser that may be sold tomorrow (you never know for sure until it's done), and several other big items listed.

                          • I have now decluttered 185 items from my home in the last week. The goal by month end is 465. Now just 280 items to go. I'm expecting paper may actually be a bulk of the remaining.

                            • I sold 2 more catalogs on ebay today. Already packed and ready to mail in the AM.

Last night, I partially cleaned out our basement freezer. There is more to do in there but it was a start. I'm embarrassed to admit but I found containers buried in the back dating back to 2010.

                              • A few weeks ago I finally acted on my plan to replace carpet with laminate flooring. 10 days of chaos ensued as we tried to shift furniture out of the way but somehow it has made the living rm feel twice the size! Dining rm remains functional doing double duty as DH's office [primarily early AM laptop station].

Late last Sunday evening I made a spontaneous decision to sell my 3 section, glass desk as I no longer see myself returning to the workforce. Took a photo, wrote an ad, and posted on local FB sale page. I only had two contacts the following day, 1st offering 1/2 asking price; 2nd asking for a convenient time to view. Student arrived, paid the sum asked, and even had a screwdriver set to take the unit apart to fit in his car.

I've now an office that feels empty with only a small file cabinet, small IKEA [Billy] bookcase, daybed and two desk chairs. I'll need to donate office supplies and am beginning to consider downsizing once again. We've too many rooms no longer being used but our RE market is down 5% since spring.

Next de-clutter likely change-out from spring/summer garments to fall/winter in conjunction with 1st snow of the season. It's a wonderful process to pitch items that are worn out, eliminate items that were not worn, whatever the reason and not earning their space. We're told to expect a brutal winter so organization is important. It's having what's needed, where it's needed, when it's needed while our crazy Chinooks [warm winds] make hash of our plans and the G_ds laugh.

Booked appointment for annual furnace & hot water heater review & cleaning. It's a free service offered by our heating supplier which I believe truly extends the life cycle of these appliances.
