It's better to have a facebook page for a family. I'm hearing alot of people complaining about not wanting their family members on their facebook. When you dread opening up your facebook for any new drama; it's time to defriend them. Just explain that your facebook is only for close friends and classmates. That is decluttering on a new level.
I need to do this, however I don't unless it is real bad. Last time I deleted someone they sent me a message whining about it. Maybe i should start one for my friends and another for the whiners....

But what I usually do is hide them so I don't have to look at their rants. That way I can still look at their page when they ask "did you see the baby pics " or whatever.

    • DS if we had a "like" button I would "like" this:

OT, but regarding facebook, as far as I'm concerned, the security settings and privacy settings are a non-issue if you don't post anything that you don't want people to know. I'm amazed at the things I see people post like, "I had to get a new cell phone. My new number is xxx-xxx-xxxx." How stupid is that? Or people who post complaints about their job/boss and then got all upset when they get fired. Duh!

      • In the course of looking for something I misplaced mid-use on Wed I moved a pile (8-10) picture frames I had bought some time ago to use as gifts. Put them w/the other stray gift items in the 3rd bedroom cabinet.

Recycled 6 papers and a 2010 calendar from my desk. I have 2 note pads w/only a few pages each. These will soon be used up and trashed/recycled ASAP. Did 2 more magazines.

Prob not much more decluttering for several days because:
It is SOOO cold here I cannot/will not carry out any trash/recycle
I have mutliple cooking projects I want to do-2 new recipes 'cluttering' up my kitchen table + one old, reliable, love it one.

        • I sold a pair of DD's skates on Craigslist today and have someone coming this afternoon to pick up an outgrown leotard. Just got a postcard from the Easter Seals people who said they'd like to pick up winter clothes, so am calling them now to schedule a pickup. Very slowly it's going, but it's going.

          • Grrrrreat going on decluttering, tangible and virtual. It feels so much better walking past the D Rm. table cleared of bank statements and investment sheets, the sofa without a tangle of newspapers and old magazines, the desk without tripping over stacks of papers on the floor, the kitchen with the counter clear of paper ready and waiting for dinner preparations, the bed made, ready to welcome you without a basket of laundry waiting to be folded, turning on your computer without it saying 760 e-mails... and holiday decorations demanding attention from December.

Many of us still have areas in the garage or basement that deserve attention and many more of us are aware of the definitions of clutter. I hope more of us will release items that are broken, ripped, stained or non functioning. You have permission to get rid of anything that has bad memories or does not make you happy. If you have partly finished craft projects one year old [or more] make a date with yourself to complete it by the 1st of March or hand it over to the nearest nursing home and bless someone with your generosity.

            • Perhaps a dinner party?

DH took over the dining room table several years ago and it's horrible. He doesn't respond well to my attempts to declutter--and now has plenty of space downstairs for his books and papers. But still he hasn't moved them. He LOVES to have people over, and I'm going to try to bribe him into moving things with the lure of a dinner party. We'll see if it works.

              • Oh Snafu, you saw my emails. (Ha Ha)! We all need alot of encouragement here but first - we need to see our homes the way we want them to look. Sometimes it means, walking out the front door and stepping in with new eyes. I'm ready to get rid of a lot of mismatched glasses that really isn't attractive.

I had gone thru Andrew (Hurricane), went on vacation in August and moved in our new homw in September which meant new glassware, plates, etc. How pretty and neat it looked. I need to get back to that picture in my mind. We all need to see the way we want things to look not the way they look now and go about changing it.

                • Made one of my new recipes on Fri. Another one I will NOT be keeping because:
I was disappointed in the taste (I could compensate for that)
It is supposed to serve 6 but reality is 3 (reduction not unusual but a BIG drop)
It was WAAAY too much work
It took WAAAY too long to make
It required WAAAY too many mixing bowls, pots and pans
I have not costed it out but it is likely WAAY too expensive for 3 servings

                  • More Clothes Gone

My favorite freecycler came by this morning to pick up more of DD's outgrown clothes. I also recycled a bunch of paper from the office and most of the mail. My financial files need some attention--maybe tomorrow during the football game?

I do not have a tv in my computer room. I will be cooking and maybe do my nails during the football games.

Cleaned out several saved places on my computer. I had not been going to these sites and after rechecking decided I did not want/need them.

                      • We don't have a TV in the office either--but I haul stuff out and sort through while watching the game.
I'm taking my promotion files to my university office--there's too much stuff here!

                        • I've been doing not much of anything lately, especially the past few days. I was very sick Sunday night and Monday and finally started feeling decent again by Tuesday afternoon. Other than a little thing here or there, like tossing a receipt from my pocket or getting something off the dresser, I lost a few days. It is looking like tomorrow might end up being a snow day around here so if I'm home, that will give me a chance to catch up a bit on the clutter.

                          • Cleaned off my desk yet again. I'm trying to this daily...to keep the clutter at bay. I recycled a few 'free' magazines I picked up at the grocery store, receipts and miscellaneous notes I made for myself.

I am learning to use the postit note feature on my computer to type a few random notes I want to save for a short period of time.

                            • CCF: really terrific, if you can order yourself to clear your desk at the end of each session for 28 days it will become a habit. It's wonderful to be able to sit down and do a task/activity without the distraction of clutter. The biggest benefit is your ability to get something because you know exactly where it was put away. DH can find things on my desk lol, it's amazing

                              • Finally made another one of my ‘try this’ recipes on Wed. This should be HISTORY because:
It is WAAAY too expensive at about $1/serving
It is supposed to feed 6 – works only if all are under 8 y/o-is 4 adult servings
It is WAAAY too much work but only 1 pan & 1 bowl.
                                BUT
I like it and so I will keep it on file just have to make notes re the changes I made.
