  • Did some more work in the computer room today. DW thought a bit more about using the now empty computer desk for scrapbooking and crafts. She suggested storing the rolling cart with the scrapbooking supplies under the desk when it isn't in use. She checked and it fit when we took off the slide out tray for the keyboard (which we no longer need). That opened up a big block of floor space (the cart is about 14x18 inches and over 24 inches tall).

Still a few more things on the floor that we need to find a spot for but we've made significant progress.

    • Major accomplishments!

Today DH and I put the finishing touches on our double closet converted to a mudroom. The closet was in a narrow hall where if you opened the closet doors, they blocked anyone from being able to move in the hall. The closet is right inside the house when you come in from the garage, making it a perfect mudroom location. I removed the doors and ventilated shelving. Painted the interior the same color as the hallway walls, repainted the trim. Bought a bench and shelf with coat hooks. Now, all the shoes go into a bench with shoe cubbies. The coats are hung on hooks, gloves/mittens/hats go in baskets on the shelves above the hooks. Before, the kids just kicked their shoes off into the closet and closed the door. Coats usually came upstairs and were tossed on the first piece of furniture they found. No more!!

I also thinned out my son's clothing, got rid of some boxes from ski helmets and DH finally put away all his LGB train stuff from xmas. Ahhhh....I feel so much better!!

      • minnie: brilliant idea to re-work a closet whose door caused blockage into a mudroom which makes it easy to stash gloves/mitten/hats, shoes and best of all hang coats so they don't create clutter on furniture upstairs.

marvholly cleared out her car's glove box a few weeks ago so when new registration came, I cleared the junk from all the bins and vehicle storage. Updated medi kit, CDs, winter emergency stuff we keep in an old sport bag. Added sand bag, a couple of old kitchen mats I need when I get stuck in a snowbank and litre of window washer fluid [hoping there is some melt soon]. It's much cheaper to buy WW fluid at the discount store than a service stn. I find it so awkward to pour that stuff I've had to add a funnel to the emergency bag.

DS: wonderful DW has a scrapbook/craft centre, where is the newly removed pull-out shelf? Can it go to off-site storage in the basement or garage until future need or sale at yard sale? A note in a drawer or underside reminds all of the location.

        • Sold my TSX that was sitting in the garage. Nice to park my car again. Even though its cold out, motivated to declutter again, toss out 2 bad car wheels, look at some hooks or a rack to hang ladders and shovels, etc. Need to dispose of old paint cans left from original owners a couple years ago, in laundry room also.

          • We got rid of another non-working TV over the weekend. This time Best Buy didn't charge us--the clerk said--just leave it on the counter. Tomorrow the basement again!

I keep a couple small bags of kitty litter 10 lb each, bought on clearance at CVS for o.69 each) in my trunk instead of sand. Works just as well & I will use when (if) winter ends.

Put away a bunch of kitchen cooking odds & ends I had let accumulate. If I am lucky I may be able to get my trash & recycle out for pickup this weekend. So far the weather is supposed to be enough above freezing to get some decent melt this weekend.

              • I transferred all the bdays & anniversaries from my 2010 calendar to the 2011 and recycled 2010.

I had 3 pieces of clothing that were taking up space in my bedroom because they needed hand sewing repairs (buttons, button holes, seams, zipper stop). Rather than add a 4th to the pile Tue I fixed them all and hung them away.

Grocery ads came in the mail on Tue. Read and NOTHING I want or need. Recycled.

Used 2 items from the freezer for meals today (tofu & salami).

                • I have been really good about trying new recipes I have cut out or gotten on the net. Today it is Carne Asada. Fri it is a new chicken recipe. I only keep the ones I like and trash the rest.

                  • Changed the chk to Sat when I will be home to prep as it is a stove top prep.

I am going to a wedding the later this month. I have (sort of) figured outwhat I am wearing (all on hand inc shoes, bag and underthings). Today I decided to check out what jewelry I had here vs. having to go to the safety deposit box. I will use what I have on hand BUT I did find a non-working, non-battery watch, which I trashed.

Made my new chicken/rice/tomato recipe Sat. It is history. Just be WAAAY too much work to adjust it so it is not so bland. Glad I only made 2 servings instead of the 4 the recipe is set at. Between Sun & Mon the papers were read, coupons clipped and remains recycled.

Went into a seldom gone to cabinet this am. Put 2 pillow cases in the donate pile. Put 1 item in the pile for oldest daughter.

I realized that. I haven't done any big blocks of decluttering but I have continued to do little things every day, kept the incoming mail sorted, filed papers, put away clean laundry and clean kitchen stuff to keep the counters cleared off, etc. Overall, I haven't made any major steps forward but have done a pretty good job of not sliding backwards, hanging onto the progress we've made so far.

                        • I am pretty much in the same state DS. No major subtracts but no new junk either.

Not sure when I will get back to the major stuff as family is now facing some tough decisions re: my Dad's living arrangements. His physical abilities have had a MAJOR decline. He needs to have either a FT aide or move to a full care facility. Any changes/arrangements need to be made and done by the end of the month so there are no further charges where he currently is.

                          • I entered a pile of Coke Rewards codes that I forgot I had. They were in the bottom of the bag I keep my synagogue paperwork in. I had gotten them at a recent event when I went through the recycling bin and claimed all of the bottle caps.

                            • With the weather breaking, I will turning my attention to the garage before long for some spring cleaning.......Yikes! I may need a roll-off dumpster for this one.

                              • I dropped off a set of towels and 4 pillows at the local animal shelter today. Earlier this week I freecycled some of my DDs preschool games and cleaned out some old papers in the office.
