Ortho Update

August 21st, 2022 at 01:47 PM by Monkey Mama

Older post that I didn't get around to posting before the whole COVID thing...
Ended up with GREAT NEWS a couple of weeks ago.
Thursday night there was a message on our answering machine re: early morning Ortho appointment for DL the next day.  Wanted a parent to come to discuss "Phase 2," yadda yadda yadda.  He has more my mouth and issues which was way too many years of braces, every contraption ever invented for ortho, plus jaw surgery.  & my jaw is probably...

Coolinary Restaurant Month

August 21st, 2022 at 01:10 PM by terri77

During the month of August they are having Coolinary in New Orleans, which is much like Restaurant Week where they have prixe fixe menus at restaurants throughout town. My sister and her friends were in town for a few days so I met them for dinner at Commander's Palace. I tried a couple of new things this time, but stuck with the bread pudding souffle for dessert. For appetizer I had the creole gumbo (wouldn't order this again) and for entree I had the boudin-stuffed quail which...

New Job Update

August 20th, 2022 at 11:45 AM by Amber

Started the new job last week and it’s been wild. I’ve been so busy that I can’t even come up for air.

The first week I really struggled. It was crazy busy, a bit unorganized and my manager kept bugging me. S/he wants to make sure I’m “happy” and yet I find him/her a little over bearing. I also dreaded heading back to the office.

Week two, still crazy but I’m starting to get the gist of things.

Though...

I Got The Job :)

August 20th, 2022 at 02:53 AM by Petunia 100

Well, I got the job.  I will start on 9/12/22.  I'm very excited.  I think it is going to be an opportunity for professional growth.  To clarify, I will still be working for my local county, just in a different role in a different department.

Frist COVID Exposure

August 17th, 2022 at 04:01 PM by Monkey Mama

The in-laws just got back from a big international trip.  MH went over to help them with things on Friday.  At some point (before they got back) he said that obviously they were bringing COVID back with them.  Probably should not have gone.  Hindsight 20/20.  In the end, MIL felt sick but didn't tell MH while he was there.  😠 She tested positive on Saturday.
I expect this is our first real exposure.  Meaning, spending any amount of time within...

Pay Day

August 17th, 2022 at 02:16 PM by CB in the City

It's pay day! This is the day I finally pay that electrician's bill via paying off my Discover card.  There were other things on it as well -- I put everything I can on the card, but I always pay in full. Anyway, the payment exceeds $2800.  That led to a nice cashback bonus of $31.  I still have about $750 in checking, above what I will need to pay for utility bills later in the month. If it's not been used by the end of the month, I'll keep it there anyway, since...

Errand Day #2

August 16th, 2022 at 02:33 PM by CB in the City

Since I didn't get everything done on Saturday, I had another errand day yesterday. I got my oil changed ($150, due to some filter replacements), paid my wheel tax ($40), and went to the bank to deposit my gift funds and buy some quarters.
While at Midas I had a discussion with one of the mechanics about my worries of thefts in our area. I have a Kia, and the TikTok challenge has taught our local criminals how to get in, start, and steal Kias and Hyundais.  They say...

Rental Income Received, Rental Expenses Paid

August 16th, 2022 at 08:26 AM by VS-from-oz

Probably the biggest financial thing this week has been receiving all of our rent money, which happened last Wednesday.

I’d been checking the banking and the real estate agency owner’s portal and hadn’t seen anything, so I called the property manager on Tuesday who looked into it and could see that we have received the rent from the tenant but it hadn’t been released. Turns out they didn’t have our bank details so I gave them. I know...

Mid-Month Update

August 15th, 2022 at 09:28 PM by Wink

Spending so far this month is right on track. I have spent $60.29 on groceries which only leaves me with $9.71 left to spend for the rest of the month to stay at my monthly goal of $70. I will need to buy butter, cheese, fresh spinach and iced tea soon so it might be a stretch to stay under budget this month. I did a quick tour of my fridge, freezer and pantry and I have 6 chicken drumsticks, frozen veggies, chili, veggie soup, ground meat, fish sticks, tuna, canned chicken,...

The Gift Goes On

August 14th, 2022 at 07:01 PM by Rob62521

Sandi Patty has a Christmas song titled "The Gift Goes On" and it talks about how God doing stuff and how it is paid forward.
Today was a non Christmas gift, but truly a gift begetting another gift.
I've written before about the group at church that loom knits hats as well as knits and crochets scarves, cancer hats, and dish cloths which we donate to different places in our community. In the past few years, we have been very fortunate in receiving some monetary donations...

Errand Day

August 14th, 2022 at 04:10 PM by CB in the City

Yesterday was my errand day. I hate to do on a Saturday, but it was really time to get groceries. I went to three different stores and spent $57. I think I did pretty good. I got a cataloupe, English muffins, popcorn, 3 Lean Cuisines, pudding, prunes, sausage, chicken breasts, biscuits, bread, carrots, peppers, crackers, tuna and granola. My total grocery bill, halfway through the month, has exceeded $100, which is where I want to stop. I think I'll be able to get through the month...

Savings accounts are growing

August 12th, 2022 at 06:21 PM by Honey

Husband was paid today, and I moved $500 to our joint CMA for down the road investment purposes. I also paid $140 principle only to my mortgage. I contemplated putting that money in our Snowball account, but figured it was more fun to pay each week. There are some months it will be the whole $1500 out of one check, this month, I had to split the $1500 across 4 checks, so last week, I paid $100, today $140 and then I will pay the remaining out of the last two checks of Sept. I think...

Yesterday Was My Birthday

August 12th, 2022 at 02:05 PM by CB in the City

It was a good day, overall. I got flowers, cards and electronic good wishes. In the evening, I went to DS' new home and we had Chinese takeout and played games late into the night. Well, late for me. It was about ten!
I was very tired and disoriented by the darkness -- and, not used to the new neighborhood, I set off in the wrong direction when it was time to head home. I couldn't see my usual landmarks, nor any street names, so I kept proceeding the wrong way. (I wasn't using...

You Take the Good, You Take The Bad

August 12th, 2022 at 03:25 AM by Lucky Robin

Just before leaving for my son's eye appointment he came down and handed me an envelope from Regence, our health insurance company.  It was a thin business envelope, not the oddly sized explanation of benefits envelope.  I didn't want to open it.  About a week ago we had gotten one just like it saying they had received the appeal.
I decided not to open it and we headed off to get his eye exam and new glasses picked out.  He's also going to get contacts for...

Kitchen Cabinets + Depression = No Clue

August 10th, 2022 at 02:36 AM by Amber

Looks like I’m just going to go with Home Depot on the cabinets. People are t showing nor are they responding. I’m not sure what is going on but this is really frustrating.

I applied for one of their credit cards, it’s interest free for six months. So I’ll buy the cabinets and pay cash to have installed.

I started the new job today. It was great but I’m depressed. I realize I don’t want to work and I’m in no...

Bits and Pieces

August 9th, 2022 at 05:58 AM by Lucky Robin

I've finally updated my sidebar to reflect where everything is right now.  I subtracted the amount I pulled from the EF, which was $7000 and then added the amount retirement has raised, which was $5033.25.  It was so nice to see both retirement accounts gaining traction, although if Biden signs this new bill, I think they are going to plummet.  Anyway, that was a reduction of $1996.77, but I'm still pretty close to $150K.
I went to get x-rays.  The positions...

not moving & psychics

August 9th, 2022 at 05:36 AM by mumof2

We have decided not to move right now..just the time and money it would take just really isn't worth it and we don't really have the energy ourselves to look at houses do paperwork and then pack and move...and they are sending someone to come fix the doors at least. With our daughter not long out of hospital from stress seizures, hubby still rehabing from his cancer and my dizziness and chronic fatigue...just not worth the hassle right now.
We have paid all our bills for the month,...
