Onions, onions, onions!

September 21st, 2022 at 03:35 PM by CB in the City

Yesterday I chopped and froze all but two of the onions in the bag I bought the day before. Lots of tears rolling down my face! The other two are baking in the oven this morning and I'll use them for French onion soup.
Today is my payday -- one of them, anyway. I have my Social Security payday and then my RMD payday. This is the SS day. I paid off my Discover and Chase cards, as usual. Everything else is automatic.
I may have mentioned this before -- I have been slightly overpaying...

A Nice Surprise! (Travels and Spending)

September 21st, 2022 at 02:39 AM by Monkey Mama

We got MM(19) moved into his college apartment.
He is back to paradise...

A pretty scene on the drive home:

I have to back up and say that I went to get my last free ~100 mile charge by the shelter, the weekend prior.  Was maybe going to justify one more to help offset this drive, but otherwise DL(17) needs to practice this drive in the gas car and will be driving himself soon.  So...  I pulled up to the charger (happy as a lark) and...  it asked me for...

Food4Less

September 20th, 2022 at 06:16 PM by CB in the City

I went to Food4Less after my gym visit and spent $3 on produce and $6 on bleach. I had intended to get the bleach at Sam's, but they were selling it in packages of three big bottles -- honestly, I don't have the space and don't use it that much. So I got one bottle at Food4Less. Shocked at the price, though. When did bleach get so expensive?
The produce I bought -- from F4L's produce clearance shelf -- was 6 red peppers, 5 kiwis, and 3 pounds of yellow onions. Pretty pleased with...

Tax Relief

September 19th, 2022 at 05:58 PM by CB in the City

Our state is issuing $50 payments to anyone who filed taxes this year. I'll take it! It was in my bank account yesterday. The state is also making payments to anyone who claimed property taxes on their state form. I do have property taxes, but I did not itemize (for me, it's always better to take the exemption), so I don't think I'll be getting that.
I was planning to go to DSW today to use a $30 coupon on a $49 purchase. I checked to make sure it hadn't expired, and suprise,...

"New" Truck

September 19th, 2022 at 05:34 PM by Brunette Getting Out of Debt

We are so excited! Last night, all The Husband’s hard work finally paid off when The Daughter got to drive her truck off to church! The look on her face was PRICELESS! (It actually cost us right around $3000, but it was so worth it!)
The Husband has been working tirelessly most nights and weekends to get this truck back on the road! This is the truck he took his drivers test on 28 years ago! The truck itself is 32 years old but has sat for almost the last 10 years and so...

The Thrill of Thrift

September 18th, 2022 at 09:01 PM by Rob62521

There's just something immensely gratifying about saving money and having some cash in reserve. I can't imagine anyone on this site disagreeing with that!
Overall, our life is pretty darn good considering we both worked in the public sector and didn't make the salaries a lot of folks made working elsewhere. We have decent pensions. We have some investments (we won't talk about the Dow lately), and our house is paid for. There isn't a whole lot that we need that we don't already...

Work Chaos Is Impacting My Health

September 18th, 2022 at 05:53 PM by Amber

I started this job and it is complete chaos. I really want to quit but I have nothing else lined up.

First, the so called training was inadequate. Next I didn’t have access to things I needed to get my job done, then they hired an assistant for me, one who has no skills in the profession or even computer skills, so not only am I learning my role but I’m also training someone else on HR and computer things such as Adobe, Excel etc. don’t get me wrong,...

$1000 saved

September 17th, 2022 at 08:25 PM by LivingAlmostLarge

I just bought my DK1 a Yamaha 362H flute.  It was about $1700 on Amazon but I decided to check facebook marketplace before buying it.  There were two options.  One was unused for $1300 with receipt.  They had bought it and then covid hit and their child had never used it.
The other was $750 but just been cleaned by the shop and looked nice in the photos. I decided if I'm going used I'm going all the way so I bought the $750.  I have an appointment on Friday...

Omicron Booster

September 17th, 2022 at 02:44 PM by CB in the City

I got my Omicron booster yesterday. (I know that's not the real name, but it's the one that targets Omicron.) I became nauseous and achy in the late afternoon and went to bed feeling pretty bad. It took me a long time to fall asleep, because I was so uncomfortable. But this morning I seem to be fine. That's the first time I've had a noticeable reaction to a COVID shot.
While I was at the drugstore that administered my shot, I bought peroxide and superglue for $4.
On Thursday,...

Raise!

September 17th, 2022 at 07:12 AM by terri77

I walked into my office Friday morning & the first thing my co-worker said was that we got our salary increase. It turned out to be a little over 16% which is better than I expected. I had hoped for at least 10% to make our current (temporary) retention pay of 10% a permanent increase. Once we start being able to fill vacancies due to the increased pay, we'll lose the retention pay. The increase to salary is more important as it impacts your retirement pay, matching for retirement...

September 17th, 2022 at 06:21 AM by dtjunkie

Today is 9/16/2022, a Friday. 11:14 in Los Angeles

Hmmm...let's see, what did I spend today?
I went to a hamburger place for lunch, where a combo + a drink + a small tip cost me: about $15.00
Bought gas: another $16.25
Bought by DD soup for Dinner + small tip, another $16.00
Made two 7-11 stops that cost me: $16.26
Total of $63.21
Most of it on food. Pretty much every time I leave the house, it costs $15.00

Quick Update

September 17th, 2022 at 01:07 AM by Wink

We are heading out on Sunday for our week long family vacation to the beach! I've been busy with laundry and packing and buying some groceries to take with me. This will be a weird finance tracking month, especially for food spending. Now that football season has started I always have my brother, nephew and cousin over on Sundays and serve lunch. Sometimes we all pitch in for pizza and wings, sometimes I make something. I think I need to just make an entertainment category during...

I Forgot This Was a Three Paycheck Month

September 16th, 2022 at 09:05 PM by Lucky Robin

Anyone else having issues with the post tags and avatars not loading and captchas not working? I'd figure it was just the blogs being buggy as usual, but I had issues on my banking website today and youtube last night, all after the Windows update, so it is entirely possible it is just me.
After my little freak out earlier in the week, I realized it was a 3 paycheck month for us and that I am only $32.88 short to pay off our last credit card statement balance based on a typical...

Good Living

Since the first of the year

September 16th, 2022 at 05:04 PM by Good Living

I took a peek at Personal Capit and since the first of the year, net worth despite automatic 401k deductions, matching and additional investing every month, lost about $39k. If I look at the investments, I've lost so much more.  So I'm just going to ignore it. I'm still sorta young and I'm going to do my best to keep ignoring it. I think just like the housing market over time, it's just a matter of when you take the money out. The value doesn't matter until I take it out....

Our Credit Card Debt

September 16th, 2022 at 03:52 PM by Brunette Getting Out of Debt

I am finally ready to share our debt numbers… and it’s scary! (Both the amount and putting our real numbers out there for people to see.) In April of this year, our credit card debt reached a total of $24,905.68, which was $1105.68 OVER our spending limit at the time. Amazingly, we weren’t charged any fees for being over our limit, other than our monthly interest. However, our interest rate has increased literally every month since then, so that’s how they...

Thought it Was Payday!

September 14th, 2022 at 02:22 PM by CB in the City

I don't know where I got the idea that today was the third Wednesday. It's only the second. I was SO looking forward to paying my bills!  Payday is next Wednesday. It is no problem, just a timing error on my part.
I sent $34 to my Oregon son last night -- my dues for the family football pool. I never win. It's just a fun way to keep in touch with family members. Variables are now at 66%.
Looking forward to grocery shopping tomorrow. Today I'm having frugal meals of tomato...

All Over the Place

September 13th, 2022 at 11:12 PM by Lucky Robin

We are spending too much money again.  I am not sure if we are going to get out of this month without carrying a balance forward into next month on our credit card.  Some of it was paying for glasses and contacts for me and my son, but a lot of it was eating out way too much and being a little too fast on the draw with that amazon mouse click thing.  You know when you suddenly get a big raise and you think, "Yee Haw! I can spend again, I don't have to be tight anymore!" ...

Enjoying Lower Gas Prices

September 13th, 2022 at 03:56 PM by CB in the City

I filled the gas tank yesterday at Sam's to the tune of $38. The price was below $4, first time in a long time at that station. I did get gas below $4 on my recent travels in Indiana and Michigan.
I made a few corrections in my log, and variables are now at 62%, a bit high for not-quite-yet-midmonth, but that is often my pattern.  It will even out.
I pulled out some frozen avocado yesterday and let it thaw in the fridge. This morning I made avocado toast. I was promptly...
