Maybe the Lesson is Learned By Now

February 10th, 2020 at 12:59 PM by Life Balance

This week I purchased dog food and entered it as part of our grocery expenses. It was a first – up until this point I’ve transferred money from DS3’s account to mine to cover the cost any time I purchased dog food.

About a year and a half ago DS3 had a GF and the two decided to get a puppy together. Well, it was not vetted with us and I was more than a little annoyed when the dog arrived. I love dogs (but not as much as cats!). And DH really loves dogs. I think DS3 knew...

Roth IRA

February 10th, 2020 at 04:07 AM by GratefulSaver

I have $100 to spare and it will be going to my Roth IRA contribution. As I mentioned before, if I can swing two $270 payments by April, I'll have a shortfall of $320 for a full contribution (2019). Once done, I'll begin my 2020 contributions. This is my #1 financial priority as I am behind on saving for retirement.

A Sports Rant

February 9th, 2020 at 08:29 PM by DK62565

I'm starting this with a disclaimer...I'm not a sports person. Don't beat me up over this, OK? I know people like different sports. I think in many cases sports can be a great thing. But it seems like it is being taken to an extreme.

OK, now that I've explained that, this is my rant. I know people like sports. I get that is interests them and it is entertainment. But I worry that sports has taken over.

I grouse often on the weekend because a sports program will run over and...

Doctors week

February 9th, 2020 at 12:31 PM by mumof2

Well this week is going to be busy with doctors, I have a regular doctors appt, I need to have blood tests, my hubby needs to see a foot doctor (the pads on his feet have dissolved) and then I have to have a biopsy on my face...and thats just this week.

Lucky for us we live in a country where our govt pays for most of our medical services...or we would be living in a tent somewhere...so thankful for that

Busy, busy busy

February 9th, 2020 at 12:55 AM by Fern

Busy, busy, busy.

New computer
I decided to replace my "aging" Windows 7 Dell desktop since Microsoft no longer supports it, virus/security-wise. It was also getting incredibly SLOW, probably due to today's complex graphics.

I bought a new "all-in-one" Dell desktop (Windows 10) with a slightly bigger monitor of about 23" and NO tower, which I like a lot since too many wires makes it hard to vacuum. Everything is wireless.

I had considered a laptop, but I really like...

ATT Settlement, etc. Belated 15 yr Pst

February 8th, 2020 at 10:50 PM by Laura

When I got home from church today and looked through the mail, I saw an envelope from ATT. I almost threw it away without looking at it. Glad I didn't!

Inside was a check for $12.49 - settling for throttling my unlimited data when I was with their service.

I vaguely remember signing up for this class action suit.

I also cashed out my StepBet/RunBet winnings - $82.42. (This is from multiple bets.)

Emergency Fund Update

February 8th, 2020 at 09:44 PM by Lucky Robin

I forgot to post this yesterday, but there was $40 left in the grocery envelope when I refilled it on Friday, and I had enough nickles for a roll in my coin jar, so I deposited that $42.00 into the Emergency Fund.

Facebook Marketplace

February 8th, 2020 at 05:03 PM by terri77

Does anyone here sell items on Facebook? I have had a real urge to declutter my home. I have given away closets of clothes, but for things that I have not used like candles I’d like to get some of my money back. I have a ton of Yankee & B&BW candles. 🕯

What has your experiences been selling on Marketplace?

Update

February 8th, 2020 at 04:28 PM by Laura

I haven't blogged in awhile. I typed an update a few weeks ago, but it disappeared when I went to post it.

I have my last chemo on Wednesday. I have been in the hospital several times including my 50th birthday. I had an abscess that is now a chronic wound. I have also had issues with clots.

Financially, I am holding my own. I am not working, but I have my inheritance from grandma to live off of for two more months. I filed for disability and get my first deposit in March....

Our Real Tax Rate

February 8th, 2020 at 04:15 PM by Life Balance

I’ve just completed our 2019 taxes. I use an online service called TaxAct to create the returns and file them electronically. It cost $72 for the federal and state filings this year. Then I did the local taxes myself on their website. Those are easy because there are no credits or deductions. I used to do our taxes manually because I didn’t trust a forms-based wizard to care as much about my numbers as me, but after TaxAct found deductions/credits that I didn’t know about...

Movies, Movies, Movies

February 8th, 2020 at 03:28 PM by CB in the City

I'm waiting for BFF to arrive in a couple of hours. We're going to see two movies tonight -- one that starts at 9:30, which is really late for a couple of old ladies! Tonight's offerings are JoJo Rabbit and Parasite.

Between shows I'm going to have to run to the parking garage and leave and re-enter, so my parking will be free. We get movie tickets validated for parking, but the time limit will not cover two movies in a row.

Last night I saw Ford v Ferrari, and, while...

Turning 50

February 8th, 2020 at 11:17 AM by Amber

Great week this week.

I received a really nice compliment at work, and I so needed it.

Yesterday was pay day, I saved $375 in sinking funds, this include the IRA contribution, paid an extra $200 on CC10, came in under budget in my cash envelopes of $53 and saved $82 for my challenges. Not bad.

Things are really working out well, financially. Saving and knocking out my debt is my focus.

Other news. In four years, I will be 50. I’ve always wanted to visit Monaco...

There was 19 hours of overtime on DH's paycheck this pay period, which was an additional $1070.87 over the new normal pay period. Part of the $800 to Citi was the initial payment and deposit for our vacation in March. Some of it was the new baking supplies and the induction skillets and sauté pan and gluten free flours, a sweatshirt and dress for my DD, a dress and a pair of boots for my birthday, etc.

Taxes Not Filed Yet

February 8th, 2020 at 02:17 AM by terri77

I think I have everything I need to file my taxes, but I’m in no hurry. I figure I will owe taxes yet again so there’s no rush.

There’s a little job uncertainty at my place of employment. Nothing that will affect me in the short-term & it could change, but it has me thinking of other opportunities. I’m single with no kids, so I have a lot of mobility if need be.

Got a raise/promotion! And general news catchup

February 7th, 2020 at 09:11 PM by ceejay74

As some of you know I've been applying for jobs because my current company was looking shaky, and I've also been contemplating going full-on freelance with AS.

Then a job was posted with my company for a position a half step up from mine. I decided to go for it. There was some confusion and delay, but finally this week I was told I'd gotten the promotion, along with a 10% raise!

I think my company is stabilizing; our results were OK the last quarter of 2019, plus they haven't...

Busy Day

February 7th, 2020 at 05:43 PM by CB in the City

It's been a busy day so far. I went to the gym, then to Food4Less and spent $26 on groceries (getting ready for BFF's visit tomorrow!) Even though we will mostly eat out, there are certain things I like to have on hand when she is here. Then I went to the vet's and bought some cat food. ($19) Yay! Iggy is eating enough that I actually have to buy cat food. He is doing well. Then I went to the library and exchanged some books. I did a lot of walking in between, and I already...
