The U.S. Postal Service observes all federal holidays each year, including Presidents’ Day—officially recognized by the federal government as Washington’s Birthday. In 2026, the holiday falls on Monday, February 16. All U.S. Post Office locations will be closed, and there will be no regular mail delivery on Presidents’ Day 2026. Here’s what you need to know about the closure.

The Post Office Is Closed on Federal Holidays

Here is the complete list of USPS postal holidays for 2026, when post offices will be closed, and regular mail delivery will pause.

Online Post Office Services

Even when physical post office locations are closed, many USPS services remain available online 24/7. Customers can:

  • Order stamps and shipping supplies
  • Print shipping labels
  • Schedule package pickups
  • Track packages
  • Submit a change of address
  • Hold mail

Self‑service kiosks in select USPS lobbies also remain accessible even when counters are closed. These kiosks allow customers to weigh packages, print postage, buy stamps, and access tracking information.

Private Delivery Services on Presidents’ Day

If you need urgent mailing services on Presidents’ Day 2026, private carriers may be an option.

  • FedEx: Most services and retail locations remain open on Presidents’ Day. Hours may vary by location.
  • UPS: UPS typically operates on Presidents’ Day, including UPS Store locations, though some locations may adjust hours.

Both companies maintain their own holiday schedules, so checking with your local store is recommended. (General 2026 holiday‑operation context supported by multiple news sources.)

Stamps can also be purchased at many grocery stores, pharmacies, and office supply retailers that remain open on federal holidays.

U.S. Postal Delivery Services in 2026

USPS continues to operate as an essential service. While pandemic‑era restrictions are no longer a primary factor in 2026, some local post office hours may still vary due to staffing or operational adjustments. To confirm hours for your nearest location, you can call 1‑800‑ASK‑USPS. Additionally, you can use the USPS Post Office Locator online.

Will Mail Be Delivered on Presidents’ Day 2026?

Lastly, no regular mail delivery will happen on Monday, and there will be no retail counter service. However, Priority Mail Express will still be delivered, as it operates 365 days a year. All other regular operations resume on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
