National Ice Cream Day 2020

July 16, 2020 by Tamila McDonald

national ice cream day

Sunday, July 19, 2020, is National Ice Cream Day. The day was officially chosen in 1984 by then-President Ronald Reagan, who said that “Ice cream is a nutritious and wholesome food, enjoyed by over 90% of the people in the United States” and wanted to encourage everyone to enjoy some. That makes it an excellent excuse to enjoy a sweet treat. If you are looking for ways to celebrate, here’s what you need to know.

National Ice Cream Day Deals and Freebies

Every year, there are usually some deals and freebies available that make celebrating this holiday even more affordable. While not all of them have been announced, some companies are getting ahead of the curve. Here is just some of what will likely be available on July 19:

Baskin Robbins

When you order online, use code BASKINSCOOP for a free scoop of ice cream on July 19 with any $15+ DoorDash order. $15+ Baskin Robbins’ DoorDash orders will also qualify for $0 delivery fees on National Ice Cream Day.

Coconut Bliss

At Coconut Bliss, you can use code BLISSDAY15 to get 15 percent off of online orders between July 17 and July 19, as long as you order four or more items.

Friendly’s

Friendly’s isn’t technically offering a deal. Instead, it is a celebration of the company’s anniversary, which happens to fall the day before National Ice Cream Day in 2020.

Starting on July 18 and going through the weekend, you can get an 85-cent cone at Friendly’s. That’s over $3 off, making it a great deal. You do have to be part of the BFF club to get the discount, so make sure to sign up in advance.

Marble Slab

At Marble Slab, in celebration of National Ice Cream Month (not just the day), you can get a free quart of ice cream when you buy two every Monday through Friday in July. You are limited to pre-packaged quarts, but there are usually plenty of options, so you should be able to find three you would enjoy.

Stewart’s Shops

On July 19, you can have a make your own sundae from Stewart’s Shops for just $1.99. That’s $2 off, making it a pretty solid discount.

National Ice Cream Day Sweepstakes Giveaways

Sweepstakes are technically freebies, though usually, only one or a select few will get something to enjoy. If you are open to tossing your hat into the ring, here are a few options.

Coconut Bliss

At Coconut Bliss, along with the discount listed above, there will be a sweepstakes on the company’s Instagram account on National Ice Cream Day. One person may win a year’s supply of ice cream.

Dippin’ Dots

Dippin’ Dots is running a giveaway on Instagram. If you follow the company by July 12 and tag three friends in the post, you could win a year’s supply of Dippin’ Dots.

Other deals, freebies, and sweepstakes may also be in the works. Some companies tend to hold back until practically the day of the event, so you may see additional options beyond those listed above.

Do you plan on celebrating National Ice Cream Day? Do you know of any National Ice Cream Day Deals, Freebies, or Sweepstakes? If so, join the conversation and share your thoughts in the comments below.
