Very true, I guess I am just bias to the mountains since I was born and raised in the middle of them. That's probably also why I go nuts whenever I have to go to Denver (which I haven't done in YEARS).

I predict this will happen again within a 18 Months. For any one of several reasons: 1) Everyone is spending like nothing happened, seriousy, you'd think that all the various offices discovered gold under a rainbow. 2) State workers are promised huge slashes in pay and benefits, as a result they will strike. 3) The state didn't contribute enough to the pension system and then borrowed what it did contribute. It's on the brink of bankruptcy. 4) Curruptions is still bad. 5) Pay to play is still legal. 6)The Delaware will flood again. The garage for the state office was built next to a river, below ground, and below the water table. The parking garage floods whenever the river gets high. With no place to park, why show up?

Basically, everyone still gets their pet projects. A million here, a million there, it's only drop in the bigger budget, but it slowly ads up. I think that the federal government has the same problem. A drop here and a drop there. Everyone sees the drops without realizing that all those drops make a rain storm.

I suppose I should post something of value here... LOL

My wife and I had an AH-HA moment a couple years ago. We realized we were living just like our parents, and all of our friends, well above our means and in debt bigtime! We strated changing the handled our money, started paying off debt, took lunch to work, quit eating out.... all of the usual suspects. She quit smoking, I quit chewing. We started putting more money in her 401(k)/457 and my SIMPLE IRA/Roth IRA. Started buying some DRIP stocks too. After we started to track our dollars, we quickly realized that our net worth was rapidly growing, and our debt was rapidly decreasing.

I also started think about the way I thought I needed to trade in our vehicles every three years for a new one. I have since traded in my truck for a slightly older one that will suit me needs for years to come, we have paid off her 2001 car. My truck will be paid off by July 2007.

Here is where our friends and us don't see eye to eye anymore. This one example is of my close friend over the past two years:

Me: Bought two used snowmobiles @ $2000 each machine and paid cash
Him: Bought two brand new machines, one at $8500 and the other at $10,000 both financed
He doesn't want "someone elses problems" and prefers a new one every couple of years

Me: Initially bought a small open, flatbed trailer for the snowmobiles and fixed it up. Total after repairs and painting, $600
Him: Bought the biggest enclosed trailer, from the most expensive dealer in town, and got the most expensive model with all the toys, even the ones he admits he will never use: $10,000
I recently bought a new enclosed trailer as well, but only after shopping all summer for the best deal on one, NEW or USED. The best deal I found was a new one, bare bones model, not too big not too small, and I finished the inside just the way I wanted it. Total cost $6300. My reason for getting one was to have a dry place for the kids to get dressed and undressed in, instead in the cold and snow and wind.

My riding gear and helmets: Was bought used from eBay for a total of around $500 for both my wife and I
His: All new from the Ski-Doo dealership, about $2000 for the two of them

Also, I paid cash for all our stuff, his is financed at over 10%

My one truck does all I need,
He bought a $40,000 Chevrolet diesel just to pull his trailer and RV

          Oh, the RV's....
          Mine is a 1994, paid $4000 cash
His, brand new, and over $10,000 and financed

I have paid for all of my toys with money made from doing odd jobs in my shop, and getting lucky on a few good stock trades. None came out of our emergency fund, our retirement funds, or any other "for the future" funds.

He simply doesn't get why on earth I would by used stuff. But hey, it runs just as good, looks just as good, and gets me to the same places and back in the same amount of time and comfort.

LOL, haven't shot in a couple of years. Hope to start again in another year. Momma's weekend nights schedule and me having the kiddos has put a temporary stop to that fun

IPSC = International Practical Shooting Confederation

It's competition shooting, different classes of pistols from stock (Production Class) to wildly built freaky looking pistols (Open Class). Very fun! My Open Class pistol was a Glock 35.

                  Interesting!

Yeah, my DH just found out the other day that I actually got a partial scholarship to college for shooting air pistol in high school. I was okay -- there's NO kick on those little Daisy's! But mostly I got it because not many girsl were on the team. LOL -- Scholarships to college for air pistol and Girl Scouts! WooHoo!

That is fascinating! If they had something like that in my high school, I would've gladly signed up.

Is that right? How did you do, going up against the racegun jockeys?

I did a bit of IDPA when I was younger, though nowadays, shooting in general is too rich for my taste. I've owned Glocks for most of my life, but my current lust is the S&W M&P.

                    Sigh....

Ah well, back to frugality. Gotta keep my eyes on the prize, which is financial freedom!

It ran suprising well......considering I had no more than $1K in mine, and most of the .38 Supers were $4 to $5K and up, and those were the cheapos!

The only Glock I have now is a 23. But my new love is the 1911's. I have one Kimber, then built one on a Caspian frame for my son (with a custom serial number....his initials and birthdate!), and built one on an 80% complete frame with surplus parts.

Where does frugality fit in with the 1911's? I built the Caspian first, with all the good stuff. Then after becoming a liiiiiitle bit smarter, bought the Kimber used (although it was like new), then after becoming even smarter built the surplus one for about $300.

                      , I'm learning! LOL

A man came up to me nearly in tears after a seminar this week.

We'd been discussing how each of us has a unique financial personality.

He could hardly control himself as the story of how he and his wife had fought so much over money that in the end they'd divorced.

He'd felt so guilty that he couldn't look after his money in a way that his wife approved of.

This man was just so relieved to discover that neither he nor his former wife were wrong in how they saw money. What they needed to do was to come to understand how differently they though about money and learn what their strengths and weaknesses in this area were.

He said it was as if the lights came on as we went through the "Personality Budgeting Quiz". For the first time he understood how he saw money.

As the man told me, it's too late for my marriage BUT I'm now going to rebuild my life knowing that I am not useless and I can organise my money in a way that suits my personality.

I went away deeply moved and angry at how so many people are forced to feel second class and useless when we demand that they budget a way that suits us and not in a way that suits them.
Well at least that is one more person who can now hold their head up high and get on with life.

Just curious, but what did you use for sights? I assume you weren't crazy enough to walk in with open sights....

The only Glock I have now is a 23.
I don't currently own any firearms, but if I were to pick up a Glock again, the 23 would be on the top of a very, very short list.

They would have laughed me clear off of the range with open sights!! I used a C-More like this one mounted on a rail attachment that mounted to the frame:

My side of the family is very frugal, and very financially stable. My in-laws are a different story. They're very financially behind, in debt with everything and quite frankly used to laugh at me when I tried to give them some frugal points. That hurt my feelings because I truly wanted to help them, especially after listening to them cry about their financial struggles. This same people also never seem to deprive themselves of anything.

It appears your inlaws want to complain, but don't want to do anything about their troubles and probably resent you because you not only know more than they do, but are in better financial shape, Savvy. It's their loss.
