I've been told that our cars are on the slower end of the charging spectrum.

Just plugging into a regular outlet is something like 4 miles per hour. ?? (Level 1 charging). Would be completely useless for our purposes but I've known people who have not bought chargers and just plug into a regular outlet when they are home.
A 240v dryer outlet typically has a 30 or sometimes 50 amp breaker on it. If a home electrical panel can supply 200amps, you'd need 50 amps free (if that's what the charger requires). It really depends on what else takes power from your main panel and if it can still support your EV charger with everything at full load.

My sister has a Wrangler 4xE that provides electric assist and up to 20 miles of battery-only driving. She doesn't have a charger at her house, so use a standard 120v/15 amp household plug. For the 20 miles of range she gets (which covers her daily commute, she can drive all week on electric-only) she plugs it in when she gets home and lets it charge overnight. No issues. She'd need an actual charger if she was driving a full battery electric vehicle.
    History will judge the complicit.

Tripping hazards on the sidewalk could be a real issue. But, maybe they will come up with some smart solution to this problem. I think we are kind of like the days when horses were the main transportation and we were switching over to cars. Going cross country in a car was a gamble. Roads, tires, service stations, car reliability, etc were all problems. (I heard stories from my Mom that her Grandpa was hesitant to embrace the new technology and preferred good 'ole reliable horses on the farm instead. ) It's kind a weird to think I'm the old geezer now.

For grins, I put in an inquiry for a 2022 RAV4 at all my favorite nearby Toyota dealers. (I believe this was through Truecar) Truecar said one dealer had 18 vehicle matches in inventory and they gave a Truecar price quote for each one. (It sounded encouraging to me).
Anyway, the dealership that had the 18 vehicles sent me a text saying, "Hi Like2Plan, We are currently sold out of new RAV4's, and all incoming vehicles have been pre-sold. Due to the current backlog, we are not taking any new orders at this time. Would you consider purchasing a pre-owned vehicle? Thank you. Your favorite nearby Toyota Dealer. "

My BIL won't buy an electric car because he's in a condo. He said they said they were installing charging stations but without one he's reluctant to buy any electric car without a spot to charge overnight.

I was looking at say a $25k bolt. But it's really hard to pull the trigger on even $25k when my car still runs. I think I would more seriously consider an electric car if we had need of a car right now but due to circumstances of being tight on money and our cars being very relatively new in my eyes it's hard to pull the trigger and even spend $25k. It's easier to just use our cars until they get a lot older and used.

$25k is still a lot of gas until my subaru kicks the bucket. It would be lovely though to think about an electric car with less maintenance and no more gas.
