  • Does anyone do any collecting?

Anyone here have any extensive collections of anything?
It could be something you consider as an investment or just something that you enjoy.

I personally have a small coin collection, a handful of Lionel trains, and some Legos from my childhood.
I've never had anything appraised, so no clue what all of it is worth.

Pretty good book collection, firearms & taxidermy / antlers.
Firearms hold their value pretty well and some appreciate, they're worth a pretty fair amount of $$ if I was ever in a pinch, but I'll probably wind up giving them all away eventually so never considered as an investment.

We have a rather large collection of Disney memorabilia and collectibles. We no longer actively collect but we still have our collection prominently displayed in our home. I began collecting around 1975 and sucked my wife into it when we got back together in 1989. This collection led into me starting my reselling business in 1986 which continues today.

So for me...I like to collect silver bullion and historic coins.

I've got a couple of neat old Roman sestertii. Its amazing to me to think that these ancient civilizations produced coinage that's lasted over 2000 years.

A better question is how much is your collection worth? No one cares if you collect beanie babies, Pokémon or labubus which can be valuable. The news recently talked about robbing at Pokémon store worth $300,000. What is the market value and not some wishful number. My Roth IRA gold/silver market value is $200,000. Outside my Roth I have another $50,000 worth of gold & silver in a bank safe deposit box.

QMM - I try to collect silver coins or junk silver So with the recent run up, my collection is worth something like $7,000. Better than nothing.

Nothing of any size or value, just little things for enjoyment. An example would be I'll buy a Matchbox/Hotwheels car every now and then if it matches something I currently own in the garage, or that hits a particularly fun/nostalgic note for me. My whole caboodle might be 15 cars, still new on their cards/packaging. Nothing like some guys who have walls and rooms full of the things. I admire their dedication.

I'm not really a car collector, either. I don't like to collect so much as I like to tinker and drive. I always say the perfect number of cars is N+1, but it's actually about 4. Beyond that, it's too much to keep track of, and driving/enjoyment time is spread too thinly between them.
                History will judge the complicit.

You don't generally collect things based on value. You collect based on appeal to you. It doesn't matter what they're worth if you like them.

If you are buying things to flip for a profit, that's not collecting in my opinion.

Nothing. I have never had space to collect anything except crap I want to get rid of that we've outgrown. I wish we had space. Maybe one day. But we've always lived so small it's been inefficient.

Guitars / instruments, and somewhat tools. But I've slowed down on both, probably buy a guitar on a average every 1.5 years for the past 15 years. But I typically only play acoustic and already have 3 really nice acoustic guitars and 1 travel acoustic.

I had bought a ton of magic the gathering cards back in the mid to late 90's.... Sadly gave them to my little cousin who gave them away for free to someone else. After observing the recent spikes in price, I had about 10 cards alone that sell for $400-800 each now-a-day..... Wonder what that collection would be worth today....

The only thing I ever collected were the old 6oz, embossed Coca-Cola bottles from the early to mid 1900's. As a kid in the early 70's these bottles were still being used and could be found mixed with the newer bottles in 6 packs at the store. Each bottle had a bottling plant city written on the bottom and I guess some cities were more valuable than others. I had something like 3 old coke cases full of them which I left in my parents attic for decades after I moved out. When my parents finally died I was forced to do something with them, unfortunately that something is now sitting in my garage collecting dust. I'm sure they must be worth something but I've never looked into it. Any offers?

I used to collect Coca Cola stuff. My dad worked for Coke for a number of years and I have a few older pieces. But realized that unfortunately most are not worth as much as they once had been. Then came out all the reproductions which are basically worthless as far as collecting. But that's OK. I have the pieces I have for sentimental reasons. I used to collect bears and that became overwhelming. It wasn't for hope of them being worth anything, I just liked them. But I got rid of a bunch of them a couple of years ago became space became an issue.
