If you have a problem with a post REPORT IT. Do not quote it. Do not respond to it. Don't post discussing it. REPORT IT. When you do anything else, you just create more of a mess for me to clean up. I'm only one person and I have a life outside of this forum. I spent today driving home from North Carolina so cut me some slack.

    STOP CRITICIZING INDIVIDUAL POLITICIANS

It is fine to make REASONABLE comments on policies. It is fine to comment in a CIVIL manner on things that were ACTUALLY said and ACTUALLY done.

CUT THE INFLAMMATORY CRAP AND STICK TO FINANCIAL ISSUES

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

More than 57% of all coins minted last year were pennies. Only about 11% are nickels.

Yes, nickels are costly too, but they don't make anywhere near as many of them. Plus, eliminating the penny lets us round up to the nearest 5 cents. Eliminate both and we'd have to round to the nearest 10 cents which is a bigger spread.

How much did we taxpayers pay, in pennies, so he and his family could fly one or more of our country's taxpayer-funded airplanes to the Superbowl and bring their security detail, which we also pay for?

I'm also confused with all these cost-saving initiatives. Demonizing the penny, but giving the nickel a pass, when it's fleecing us on a greater scale. What am I missing? Is this some kind of joke?
Is your expectation that the President of the United States should never leave the grounds of the White House? I mean I am not a professional football fan personally, but there are few things more American than the Superbowl. It is a chance for face time with the public during an event that doesn't divide the country (unless you're on the opposing team).

I should imagine he is neither the first, nor the last President to attend a super bowl.

All of the cost associated with his attendance applies just as well to his or any other Presidents' attendance at any event.

People have been talking about getting rid of the penny for quite a while. I scratch my head why we can't applaud the effort but instead must get upset over nickles.

Trump is the first US President to ever attend the Super Bowl.

Very true, but it’s not hard to see the optics problem this created. At the same time that the administration is ranting about cutting “waste” like cancer research, its spending probably tens of thousands of dollars to fly the entourage and vehicles to New Orleans for a few hours.

I agree that the President should get out and about and make appearances around the country. This was just unfortunate timing.

I think the only expectation I have with regard to finances is if the goal is to save money, perhaps a lavish trip to the superbowl for friends and family isn't in a budget. Not while others are losing their jobs under the same guise of saving taxpayer dollars. To include a known fact, he is the first sitting president to attend a superbowl. That makes the situation particularly unique and noteworthy. Attendance isn't customary. Football is supposed to be apolitical and uniting except for fan rivalry between teams. Political attendance is highly divisive.

As I mentioned in a post above, I'm personally fine with the penny going away. However, since Trump decided to insert himself as the decision maker with regards to the elimination of the penny, that is also noteworthy. It remains to be seen if he has the authority to do so, and as both a citizen and taxpayer, I wish established and legal procedure will be followed if eliminating the penny is the goal.
              History will judge the complicit.

You took the time to clean up my post yet you didn't clean up the offending posts. Did you read the quote you personally said in the other thread? I copy and pasted it here, but...you deleted it.

If you're going to moderate at least be consistent with what you say.

I did clean up the reported posts. Message me if you think something else needs to go. I just got home a couple of hours ago so trying to catch up.

So no more 0.99, 1.99 etc kind of deals?

what impact will this have on gas prices if someone is paying cash?

Or do people see no immediate impact because there are still pennies in circulation?

The cost was 20 million dollars. Google it.

I personally do not see a problem with eliminating the penny. Nickels and dimes could go too, IMO. Most people pay with cards anyway.

As a small child, I did enjoy sorting and counting pennies. Buttons as well. But there are toys made for the same purpose.

Looks like estimates range from $4 to $20 million. Either way it’s a lot.

The impact on prices for anything will be rounding to the nearest 5 cents.

                                Google is your friend.

The mints produced 92% fewer nickels in 2024 than in 2023 with production falling from 1.42 billion in 2023 to just 112 million in 2024. Of those, only 32.8 million came out of Denver making them relatively rare. For folks who collect stuff, finding uncirculated 2024 Denver nickels is going to be a lot more challenging.
